The Netherlands won the first ever Hockey World League after cruising to a 7-2 victory over New Zealand in the final of the Hero Hockey World League Final. In the bronze medal match England beat Australia 2-1 to finish at 3rd place. Belgium defeated India and Germany beat Argentina by 2-1 each to finish 5th and 7th respectively.

Argentina Hockey World League Final
from 30th November to 8th December, 2013
at San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina.
The World League Final is a culmination of the International Hockey Federation’s World League tournament which started back in October 2012. Following the completion of round one and two, 16 teams battled it out in the semi-final stage which took place in London and Rotterdam over the summer.

London Olympics Champions Germany defeated Argentina in the final of Hockey World League Semi Final at Johor Bahru (Malaysia), while England beat Korea to finish at 3rd place. Hosts Malaysia edged Japan in Shoot-out (4-3) after 1-1 draw in regulation to finish 5th and increase their chances of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. World number 5 side and Asian Giants Pakistan scored a convincing 6-2 win against South Africa to avoid wooden.

London Olympics Gold Medalists Germany overcame valiant Korean side to win 2nd semi final of Hockey World League being played at Johor Bahru (Malaysia) to set up final against Argentina, who defeated England in 1st semi final.
Earlier in the day, Japan beat South Africa in shoot-out, while Malaysia defeated Pakistan 3-1 to set-up fifth place match to strengthen their chances for world cup qualification.

In 2nd semi final, Korea went down to Germany with a fierce flick of Christopher Zeller in 14th minute, but put up a strong fight to equalize in 60th minute through Nam Yong Lee. Germany restored their lead on another PC. Korean goalie Myung Ho Lee saved initial attempt of Zeller; but rebound was sent by Linus Butt. Germany completed their tally with Florian Fuchs and Martin Zwicker combining in Korean D with Zwicker putting it on target in the last move of the game.

England and Argentina won their respective quarter final matches at Hockey World League in Johor Bahru (Malaysia) to face each others in semi final. Though England are guaranteed of their place at next year’s Rabobank Hockey World Cup following a dominant display over Japan, a win for Argentina in next two matches will earn them place at the quadrennial hockey tournament to be played at The Hague, Netherlands from 31 May to 15 June 2014.

Pool competition concluded today in Hockey World League Semi Final at Johor Bahru, Malaysia, with Argentina and Pakistan winning their respective matches to finish as pool toppers and to set up quarter finals against South Africa and Korea respectively. While England defeated Malaysia to finish 2nd in Pool B and will face Japan in quarter finals, while hosts Malaysia are up against London Olympics Gold Medalists Germany in the knock-out stage, which will be played on 4th July after a rest day tomorrow (Pool points table, results and full schedule here).
