Day One of 2nd Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship, Bangalore saw some surprising results. Puducherry stunned Maharashtra 7-2, while Odisha held Tamil Nadu 2-2. Defending Champions Haryana came from behind to win 2-1 against Hockey Bhopal. While in other matches Punjab rolled past Jammu and Kashmir (12-1), while Kerala won 11-0 against Gujrat. Chattisgarh got a walk over as Arunachal Pradesh did not turn up.
After opening ceremony, last match of the day was played between Air India and Madhya Pradesh, which Air India won with 4-1. The star studded team looked a little off their elements.

LUCKNOW, Sept 9: Punjab staged a remarkable second half rally to defeat Odisa 4-3 to win the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men National Championship at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium here on Sunday. Odisha, who led 3-1 at the break, had to be content with the runners-up slot for the second year running.

Watched by Hockey India selectors Col. Balbir Singh, Thoiba Singh and Syed Ali were also present, Punjab took lead in the 10th minute with a penalty corner goal by Gurjinder Singh. Lucknow, September 7: Favourites Punjab set up a high voltage summit clash with last year’s finalist Odisha in the 2nd Junior National Men Hockey Championship here tomorrow.

After winning Senior Nationals 2011, Haryana Juniors defeated Odisha 3-2 in the penalty shoot out for a 5-4 aggregate victory to lift the 1st Hockey India Junior Men’s National hockey title. The two teams were locked 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.

Best Defender: Kiro Xess (Jharkhand);
Best Mid-fielder: Pardeep Mor (Haryana);
Best forward: Manish Rana (Haryana);

In the new penalty shootout format (as it was seen in Asian Champions Trophy final between India and Pakistan), Orissa skipper Stanli Victor Minz and Amon Mirash Tirkey failed to put the ball in, Haryana’s Manish Rana found the target to take his 1-0 up. While Odisha came back into match through Mikhal Barla and Bikas Kujur after Haryana’s Siddhant Gautam failed to score, Ranjit Singh and Naveen Antil made sure they had the last laugh. Haryana overcame stiff Karnataka to win 2-1 in the final of the senior national hockey championship in a thrilling final at the Aishbagh Stadium, Bhopal. Sandeep Singh converted a penalty corner in the 13th minute to take the lead for Haryana and V.R. Raghunath scored equaliser for Karnataka through drag flick in the 40th minute. Mandeep Anil struck the winner for Hayana with a brilliant reverse hit in the 52nd minute.
The Karnataka defender V.R. Raghunath went past Haryana’s Sandeep Singh as the tournament’s top scorer with 12 goals while Sandeep finished with 11, in the contest between two highly-rated drag flickers.
Prabhdeep Singh scored two goals, Baljinder Singh and Akashdeep Singh found the target once, as Punjab defeated Jharkhand 4-1 to finish third, while Bikash Toppo was the lone scorer for Jharkhand.
