Star-studded Air India dethroned Indian Oil Corporation Limited 3-1 in the men’s final to lift the 2nd Bengaluru Hockey Cup, while in women’s competition Haryana XI edged past defending champions Madhya Pradesh Academy 2-1 in shoot-out to win the title. Both the teams played a 0-0 draw in the regulation time at the hockey Stadium here on Monday.

Hockey Haryana girls outplayed Hockey Jharkhand by 6-1 to win the 5th Junior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘’A’’ Division ended today Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh). Whereas, Hockey Punjab pulled down Hockey Odisha with huge margin 7-1 to win the Bronze Medal.

In the Finale clash between Hockey Haryana and Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Haryana thrashed Hockey Jharkhand with 6-1 and clinched the title of 5th Junior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘’A’’ Division. Hockey Haryana showcased confidence from the initial minutes of the game itself scoring their first early goal in the 2nd minute when Manjeet converted a beautiful penalty corner for the team. Very soon in the 9th minute another goal was added to the kitty of Hockey Haryana when Neha struck a field goal into the net. Hockey Jharkhand made continuous efforts to score their first goal, however in the 32nd minute it was yet again Hockey Haryana who bagged another field goal coming from the stick of Saroj. With an excellent performance Hockey Haryana was leading with 3-0 by the end of the first half. With high spirits, Hockey Haryana continued with their admirable team work and added another field goal to their scorecard when Jyoti Gupta in the 44th minute smashed a field goal in support of the team. It was in the 54th minute that Hockey Jharkhand managed to score when Pramila Soren converted a penalty corner for the team. With two more field goals in the 63rd and 65th minute scored by Devika Sen, Hockey Haryana clinched the title defeating Hockey Jharkhand with leading score 6-1. Continue reading →
Sumit Toppo scored hat-trick as Odisha won the title of the 5th Junior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Men) A-Division by defeating Punjab by 4-3 in the fitting finale played in Chamundi Vihar Stadium, Mysore (Karnataka). Haryana finished 3rd position with a 3-0 victory ove Himachal.

Jharkhand eves finished third by defeating Odisha 2-0, while Haryana men edged past Jharkhand in nerve wrecking shoot-out by 7-6 to win men’s hockey bronze medal.

In two exhilarating semi final games of men’s hockey, Jharkhand took on SSCB in the first match whilst Odisha clashed with Haryana in the next, with a single intention to defeat their opponent and reach into the all-important finals before walking away with the title. While SSCB defeated Jharkhand by 5-1, Odisha and Haryana fought it out in the shoot out where Odisha scored in the sudden death to emerge victorious and book a berth in the finals.
In the women’s section, Haryana took on Jharkhand and Odisha women challenged the mighty Punjab, early morning today. Whilst Haryana and Jharkhand battled it out in the Shoot-Out phase with Haryana finally winning the game in the sudden death, Punjab recorded a comfortable triumph over Odisha as it blanked the latter 3-0. The ongoing 35th National Games today saw Men Hockey teams playing for the semi-final spot at the New Hockey Stadium, Kollam (Kerala), Jharkhand and Haryana topped their Pools ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively to set semi finals against Services and Odisha respectively. The semi-finals will be played on 10th February 2015 where all four teams will look at beating the opponent and reaching the Finale of the prestigious 35th National Games.

In Pool ‘A’, Jharkhand, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh won two matches each and locked at 4 points each, but on the basis of better goal difference, Jharkhand and Odisha advanced to final four. Haryana were the clear winners in Pool ‘B’ with 5 points from two wins and a draw, followed by Services with 4 points from two wins in three matches.
