India and Ireland played their 3rd and final test this evening in front of a packed crowd who enjoyed basking in the evening sunshine as the match was drawn 2-2 with both the sides playing top class international hockey.
Indian Team for FIH Champions Challenge 1 (Glasgow)
In three match series before FIH Champions Challenge 1, India won first two match by 3-1 and 2-1 at UCD Dublin. India is placed in Pool A of Champions Challenge 1 with Korea, Belgium and the host Scotland while Ireland in Pool B with USA, South Africa and Spain. India is scheduled to reach Glasgow (Scotland) on 21 April 2014.
Ireland showed their attacking intent early on drawing the first shot in the 4th minute. Just four minutes later Ireland were back attacking and this time on target with striker Anna O’Flanagan converting after great build up play from the back through to midfield before O’Flangan was set up to give her side the 1-0 lead. Scotland 4 (Kidd 20’, Clement 27’ Bell 50’, Cram 54’) beat Ireland 3 (Atcheler 15’, Jacob 43’, Atcheler 56’)
The Electric Ireland Irish Senior Women squad were beaten 4-3 by Scotland today in the 2nd and final game of a two test series in Edinburgh. The sides played out a 2-2 draw yesterday and today’s encounter was a similarly close fought affair with a better overall quality of play. Continue reading →
Scotland 2 (Kidd 30’ 53’) draw Ireland 2 (O’Flynn 2’, Jacob 59’)
Hermes’ Lisa Jacob struck late in Edinburgh to earn Darren Smith’s Electric Ireland Irish Women’s team a 2-2 draw vs. Scotland in the first of two tests on a day when Kate Dillon & Deirdre Duke earned their first senior caps for the Green Army. Ireland started the game brightly going close within a minute as Jacob saw her shot saved by Cochrane in the Scottish goal. It didn’t take long for the breakthrough to come though as Ireland raced into a 1-0 lead as Audrey O’Flynn drilled a penalty corner low into the bottom corner. Continue reading →
Electric Ireland Irish Women’s Coach Darren Smith has named a strong squad for summer training camps and upcoming test matches vs. Scotland & South Africa prior to the squads participation in TriFinance EuroHockey Championships 2013 from August 17th – 25th in Belgium.
The Irish coach has selected his panel following extensive review of the Electric Ireland Irish Senior Squad International performances in 2012 & recently in Valencia at World League 2 as well as throughout this seasons hectic Irish Hockey League Schedule.
Smith’s squad includes some new and returning faces with Lizzie Colvin, Deirdre Duke and Gillian Pinder all returning to the squad following education commitments abroad while uncapped UCD midfielder Emily Beatty joins up with the Green Army officially for the first time. Continue reading →
Electric Ireland Irish Women’s Coach Darren Smith has named a 43 player squad for a 2-day training camp in Dublin on 25th and 26th May 2013 in preparation for the European Championships in Boom, Belgium from 17th to 25th August 2013.
Smith has selected the group having taken in every round of the Electric Ireland Irish Hockey League recently culminating in the Finals last weekend at Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club. Smith’s selection includes some new faces in the squad with uncapped players Vanessa Surgeoner, Chloe Brown, Kate Lloyd, Emily Beatty, Erika Hinkson, Yvonne O’Byrne, Aisling Campion & Kate Dillon joining the Green Army on this occasion. The Irish coach will also have to do without the services of Emma Clarke who is unavailable due to her upcoming marriage.
After the training weekend Smith will reduce the squad further to select a squad to train toward the European Championships and in to the latter part of 2013. Continue reading →
Irish Hockey is delighted to announce Darren Smith as new Ireland Women’s National Coach. Smith, a New Zealand native, takes up the role following 6 years as Assistant Coach to the New Zealand Men’s team who recently finished 9th at the Olympic Games in London 2012.
Darren brings with him a wealth of International coaching experience gained with the ‘Blacksticks’ including participation at Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cup & Champions Challenge. As well as his extensive coaching experience, Darren also brings vast playing experience to the role having represented New Zealand on 212 occasions as a player including earning a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.
