Pune Hockey Nationals 2013 Day 10: Defending Champions Punjab, Manipur and Jharkhand in Quarters

6 June 2013: Defending champions Punjab along with Manipur and Jharkhand has entered the Quarter-Finals of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013 being played in Pune. Chandigarh, Railways, Haryana and Air India are the other teams who have already qualified for the Quarter-finals.

Riding on form of former Indian captain Deepak Thakur, who scored 5 goals, Punjab defeated Delhi 9-2 in their last league match of Pool A to emerge pool toppers.

In addition to 5 goals of Deepak for unbeatable Punjab, Vikramjit Singh scored thrice while Davinder Pal Singh found the target once. Pawan Singh Chauhan and Avtar Singh Mann scored a goal each for Delhi to reduce the margin to 9-2.

In Pool C, Karnataka registered their third consecutive win, as they defeated Bihar 8-1. Karnataka scored through S K Uthappa (11 min), Nikkin Thimmaiah (22 min), S K Chingappa (29, 31 min), M K Muddappa (39 min), Vickram Kant (43 min), B S Bidappa (51 min) and M G Poonacha (52 min) while Bihar’s only reply came from Satnam Singh (56 min). Day 7 of Pune Hockey Nationals 2013: Universities and Karnataka Won by Big Margins

New Delhi, 3 June 2013: On 7th day of Pune Hockey Nationals 2013, Association of Indian Universities and Karnataka registered big wins in their league matches played at Major Dhyan Chand Polygrass Hockey Stadium, Pimpri in Pune, while Services, Odisha and Manipur also won their respective matches.

Railways, Haryana & Air India reach Pune Hockey Nationals 2013 Quarter-finals

New Delhi, 2 June 2013: Indian Railways, Air India and Haryana entered the quarter-finals of the Pune Hockey Nationals 2013. They defeated Namdhari XI, MPHA and Maharashtra respectively on 6th day of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013 played at Shiv Chattrapati Sports Complex in Pune to book their seats in knock out stage.

New Delhi, 1 June 2013: Services started their campaign of Pune Hockey Nationals 2013 on a winning note defeating Goa 28-0 in their first league match of Pool C played at Shiv Chattrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Saturday.

Services scored through Siraju AP (7, 13, 25, 26, 32, 61 min), Ved Prakash (16, 69 min), Sanwar (Ali 22, 31, 33, 51, 52, 53, 56, 57 min), Ignace Tirkey (23, 28 min), Lovepreet Singh (29, 34, 38, 49 min), Johnny Jasrotia (48 min), K Hera Singh (54, 59 min), Rajesh Kumar (58 min) and S Arumugam (62, 64 min while Goa failed to score any goal.

New Delhi, 31 May 2013: Defending Champions Punjab start their campaign with a big win over Gujarat 30-0 in their opening league match of Pool A in the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship played at Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex in Pune on Friday.

Experienced side Punjab started their game on attacking mode and successfully built pressure on their opponents. Forward Vikramjit Singh scored maximum seven goals for Punjab followed by Simranjit Singh (6), Inderjeet Singh (5), Sarvanjit Singh (4), Ravi Pal (3), Jarnail Singh (3), Vikas Sharma (1) and Sandeep Singh (1).

Senior Men’s Hockey National Championship 2013 to Start in Pune from 28 May

New Delhi, 27 May 2013: The 3rd edition of the Hockey India Senior Men National Championship will be played at Pune, Maharashtra from 28 May-10 June 2013.

In 2013 edition of the championship, as many as 38 teams will be participating in the championship which will be played on a league cum knockout basis on the Major Dhyan Chand Polygrass Hockey Stadium Pimpri and Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex in Pune.

This year four new teams including Comptroller and Auditor General, Sports Authority of India, Mumbai Hockey Association Limited and Namdhari XI will participate apart from 34 teams which participated in last edition. Continue reading →
