Indian Women’s Hockey Team for FIH World League Round 2 is Known

Indian Women’s Hockey Team is known for FIH World League Round 2 which is scheduled to be played at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi from 7th March to 15th March 2015. The league featuring eight teams is divided in Pool A and Pool B.

The 18 member Indian squad will be captained by the very proficient midfielder Ritu Rani who has to her credit of 193 International caps. Deepika, who has donned Indian jersey 138 times will be her deputy. Also, to guard the nets under the bar will be goalkeeper Savita who has made several crucial saves for the Indian Women’s Hockey team in the past. Continue reading →

India ready to host FIH World League Round – 2 (Women) from March 7

The FIH World League Round – 2 (Women) is all set to make a start on the 7th of March 2015 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi in India. The turf will witness eight international women hockey teams take on each other with the sole objective to win and advance to the semi finals of the League.

The Indian Women Hockey Team was touring Spain to play matches in preparation for the FIH World League Round 2. Playing five games at Valencia, two against Spain, one each against the two Dutch hockey clubs – GCHC and HDM and Germany, the team India was seen giving a tough fight to their opponents on the foreign turf prior to the upcoming FIH World League Round 2. The girls from India were appreciated for their on-ground skills and team coordination as they dished out some noticeable performances at Spain.

The League holds importance as each team will look at winning and going on to play the World League Round 3 which is the final stage of qualification for the 2016 RIO Olympics. The Indian team, post their great show at Spain will look at winning and proceeding to the next round of the League. Continue reading →

USA Face Argentina in Quarter Final of Hockey Junior World Cup (Women)

July 30, 2013 – The U.S. Under-21 National Team rounds out pool play with two wins and a loss at the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach by defeating Ghana 6-0. After three games of intense play, the U.S. has earned their position in the quarterfinals alongside fellow Pool A opponent the Netherlands, where USA will face Argentina and Netherlands are up against South Africa.

Ergo Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 (Women) Logo“Tournaments always have two halves,” said Steve Jennings U.S. U-21 National Team head coach. “We’re really excited we got through the first portion of the Junior World Cup this well but now we have to produce to get to where we really want to go. We’re excited to be in the top half of the bracket and look forward to getting the best results coming through.”

Building upon pinpoint precision passing combinations that lead to their attack circle, Team USA was able to capitalize on three corners in the first half against Ghana. Within the first nine minutes of play Nikki Parsley (Milford, Del.) was able to find the back of the net. Fellow teammates Marie-Elena Bolles (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Aileen Johnson (Oceanport, N.J.) followed suit by placing the ball past Ghana keeper Joana Adjei in the 14th and 16th minute marks.
