This weekend, Unibet EuroHockey Championships concluded at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. Hosts England won the title in women’s category, and the Netherlands outclassed Germany to win men’s competition.

HIL Auction on 17th Sept: No team from South India, 135 Indians and 142 Foriegners in Fray

Hockey India League (HIL) is conducting a fresh auction of players for the upcoming season of the League on September 17 at New Delhi. The six franchisee will bid for players from India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, England, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, Malaysia, Japan and Korea to complete their teams.

This is going to be 4th season of HIL, but still there are no teams from South India, either of Chennai or Bangalore should have had a franchise in the league by now. In the interest of the game and for increasing its reach, hockey hotbeds like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu can not be ignored in important league like HIL, which has become one of the best league in world, however it is yet to spread its arms pan-India. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has announced that the 2015 men’s Hockey World League Final will be hosted by the Indian city of Raipur, Chhattisgarh between 27 November and 6 December 2015.

The event will be held in the 3,000 capacity Raipur International Hockey Stadium which was opened as a dedicated hockey facility in August 2014. Continue reading →

After losing against England in their last league match, the India U-21 Women Team took revenge after beating them by 1-0 in shoot-out to finish 3rd in the Volvo U-21 (Women) Invitational Tournament 2015 held at Breda, The Netherlands.

India’s goal-keeper Inderpreet Kaur was the hero of the match as she brilliantly thwarted all attempts by the English players during the penalty shootout which helped India clinch the closely fought match and the 3rd position. India held England for 1-1 in Volvo Tournament at Breda

India U-21 Men Hockey Team looking to win against England to make a place in final of Volvo Invitational U-21 (Men) Tournament 2015 at Breda, the Netherlands.Both the teams gave a tough time to each other and ended up in 1-1 draw.

India Under-21 Men Hockey team in a discussion with coach Harendra Singh at Volvo Invitational U-21 Tournament at Breda

In the league stage of the tournament, India won two matches against Germany by 3-0 and New Zealand by 3-0, while lost two against the hosts Netherlands by 1-2 and Belgium by 1-3.

Earlier in the day Belgium defeated New Zealand by 4-1 to set-up final against Germany. With this result, India and England will play again today for 3rd place.
