Blend of Youth and Experience in Hockeyroos Squad for Investec Hockey World League in London

22 May, 2013: The Hockeyroos will welcome back a number of familiar faces as they head to Europe for next month’s Investec Hockey World League in London with the aim of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. The 20 athlete squad strikes a strong balance of experience and youth with seven athletes also eligible for the U21s and July’s Junior World Cup.

Hockey Australia LogoFormer World Young Player of the Year Casey Eastham (NSW), Jordyn Holzberger (QLD), Jodie Schulz (QLD) and Jade Warrender (NSW) are among those returning to the side following injury. Emily Hurtz (NSW) is selected after spending the season playing club hockey for Dutch side Amsterdam.

Two recent debutants are also named. Edwina Bone (ACT) and Jane Claxton (SA) have received the call-up from Head Coach Adam Commens following their performances against Korea in Perth last month. Claxton is one of those still eligible for selection to the Jillaroos squad alongside Jade Warrender, Emily Smith, Anna Flanagan, Jordyn Holzberger, Karri McMahon and Georgia Nanscawen, who at 20 recently became the youngest player to play 100 matches for the Hockeyroos. Amit Rohidas to Lead Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team for European Tour

New Delhi, 19 May 2013: The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey team is undergoing a preparatory camp at NSSC (SAI) Bangalore. The team will travel to Europe from 23 May-5 June 2013 in preparations for the FIH Junior Men Hockey World Cup to be held in New Delhi from 6-15 December 2013.

The 18 member squad will be Captained by Amit Rohidas while Malak Singh will be the Vice-Captain.

The squad for the European tour was selected by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh and B P Govinda along with Roelant Oltmans (High Performance Director), Gregg Clark (Foreign Coach, U-21), Baljeet Singh Saini (Coach, U-21) and Government Observer Harbinder Singh during their meeting held on 16 May 2013.

Andrew Meredith’s Irish Men’s team have beaten reigning Olympic Champions Germany 3-2 in Heilbronn this afternoon in an International test match in front of almost 3,000 spectators. Ireland took the lead in the 4 th minute when Pembroke Wanderers man Alan Sothern found the net.

Australia U21 men’s hockey squad announced for the Europe tour

Australia’s under 21 men’s hockey team, the Burras, have selected 20 athletes to tour Europe next month as preparations for December’s Junior World Cup get underway in earnest. Four years ago Australia won the bronze medal with victory over rivals New Zealand and the two week trip will see the Burras go up against the two teams that finished above them on the medal rostrum in 2009, Germany and the Netherlands.

Hockey Australia LogoThe five match European tour will see Australia play Germany twice in Mulheim, followed by three Tests against the Netherlands’ U21s in Eindhoven.

And with the Burras’ tour overlapping that of their senior counterparts, the Kookaburras, it offers Australia’s aspiring young athletes a rare opportunity to learn from their hockey heroes. Continue reading

Meredith announces Irish Men’s Hockey squad for series against Germany

Irish Senior Men’s Coach Andrew Meredith has named a 20-man squad for the upcoming test matches vs Germany in Heilbronn & Mannheim on the 16th, 17th & 18th of May 2013 in preparation for FIH World League 3 in Rotterdam from 13th – 23rd June.
