Germany Sweep FIH Awards for Men 2nd year in a row

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced that Germany’s Tobias Hauke and Christopher Rühr have been named as the men’s Player of the Year and Talent of the Year for 2013.

Hauke is the second successive Germany international to be crowned as the world’s best player, following in the footsteps of 2012 winner and fellow midfielder Moritz Fürste and with the dazzlingly gifted Christopher Rühr succeeds 2012 title holder Florian Fuchs to make it for 2nd year in a row for Germany to win both the awards.

Amazing Aymar lands eighth FIH Player of the Year crown, Rani among 5 Talents

Argentine superstar Luciana Aymar has been unveiled as the International Hockey Federation’s Player of the Year for 2013 at a special presentation ceremony at the Argentina Hockey World League Final in San Miguel de Tucuman. Maria Verschoor, the 19-year-old Dutch forward, has been named as the FIH Talent of the Year.

Indian Forward Rani Rampal was also nominated for FIH Talent of the Year, which recognises the most outstanding performer aged 21 or under.

Maria Verschoor saw off strong challenges from some of the most exciting young players in the game, with Argentine duo Agustina Albertarrio and Florencia Habif joining England’s Lily Owsley and India’s Rani on the five player shortlist for Talent of the Year. Continue reading →

2012 FIH Women’s Young Player of the Year – Anna Flanagan

Australian Women’s Hockey Player Anna Flanagan has been named FIH World Young Player of the Year for the year of 2012. She was presented with the award before the Hockeyroos’ match against South Africa during the ongoing Investec World League in London.
