Korea have qualified for the 2016 Champions Trophy with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Canada in the final of the Pahang Hockey Champions Challenge 1 in Kuantan. The hosts Malaysia defeated Ireland 4-2 to grab Bronze medal.
Both the finalists had good results, as Korea grabbed their first Champions Challenge 1 title in their fourth appearance and Canada finishing second, their best result was a 6th place finish in Quilmes, Argentina, in 2012.
The Koreans scored the 2 goals in each half to win the final by 4-0, with the help of a brace from JANG Jong Hyun (10th minute PC and 56th minute PS goals), and field goals from KIM Young Jin and KIM Seong Kyu in 13th and 69th minute respectively. Continue reading →
USA Field Hockey team defeated Ireland 3-1 to win the FIH Champions Challenge I (Women’s) tournament at Glasgow (Scotland).
South Africa edged past Spain with lone goal from CHAMBERLAIN Dirkie in 67th minute of the game to win Bronze Medal.

On the last day of FIH Champions Challenge 1 (Women’s) at Glasgow (Scotland), the hosts Scotland came back from 1-3 down at 63rd minute to win game by 4-3 to hand over wooden spoon to India, while Korea defeated Belgium 2-1 in shoot-out after having scores tied at the regulation time to finish at the 5th place.
Though India played a competitive game but lost out in last 7 minute even after having a goalless first half and leading 3-1 in 63 minute.
In the sparkling second half of the game Scotland’s Vikki Bunce took the lead and found the target in 44th minute. The game turned out to be in favour of the India as this time there were three continuous goals that came from the Indian team. Korea defeated Ireland 2-1 in the semi-final of the Pahang Champions Challenge 1 at Kuantan, Malaysia, while Canada edged past the hosts Malaysia in an exciting shoot-out to set-up the summit clash.
Final match between Canada and Korea will be played 2130 (Local time/MYT), as Ireland take on hosts Malaysia in the Bronze Medal match at 1915 (Local Time) i.e 1215 Irish time on Sunday (May 4th). Poland will take on Japan for 7th place and New Zealand face France for 5th place.
Ireland trailed early on when Korea converted on the drag flick thanks to Jang Jong Hyun’s handiwork in just the 3rd minute. Ireland had a great equalising opportunity in the 15th minute when their initial goal ward bound shot secured them a penalty corner but the strong Korean defence was up to the task. Ireland have made the final of the FIH Champions Challenge I beating South Africa in a fast paced and exciting match 2-1. Irish women’s will now face USA in the summit clash at Glasgow tomorrow, Sunday 4th may at 5.45pm.
USA defeated Spain 3-1 after leading 3-0 at half time of other semi final. South Africa and Spain will fight it out for Bronze medal, as Korea take on Belgium for 5th place and hosts Scotland face India for 7th place.
Ireland took a difficult route to the final having to knock out the number one seeds in this tournament (world no 8) Korea in the quarter finals in a tournament that contains four world cup teams. Continue reading →
3 May 2014, Glasgow: Indian women’s hockey team lost yet again at FIH Champions Challenge 1 in Glasgow (Scotland). India went down to Belgium 2-4 while Korea edged the hosts Scotland 3-2 in 5th-8th place classification matches.

India will now play Scotland for 7th place, while Belgium and Korea will fight out for 5th place in the FIH Champions Challenge.
Indian team was defending very well from the start of the match in the first half. In the 20th minute of the game, Captain of Belgium Charlotte de Vos scored the first goal for the team through a field goal. Soon after in the 25th minute Poonam Rani scored the first goal for the Indian team by converting a penalty corner and levels the score by 1-1. Belgium team came back well and Emilie Sinia scored second goal for the team in 28th minute of the match through a field goal.
