HIL Champions DELHI WAVERIDERS: ~ Rok Sako toh Rok Lo ~

The third season of The Hockey India League 2015 is all prepared to set the ground on fire. The DELHI WAVERIDERS team, the Delhi franchise in the HIL, defending champions & winners of the last season, are set to play with all energy & courage to retain the title.

In an event organized at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, the team appeared with a fresh vigour and spirit. Cedric D Souza, team’s chief coach, welcomed 4 new players, Andrew Hayward, Diwakar Ram and Erasmus Pieterse & Gurpreet Singh into the team and presented them with the team’s jersey. The coach also shared the strategies that the team will follow to retain the title yet again.

Under the captaincy of Captain Sardar Singh and trained by Cedric D Souza, the team is all set to create a thunder on the grounds, defeating their opponents with their weapons – the Hockey Sticks. CWG2014: Diwakar Included in 33 Indian Hockey Probables

The preparatory camp of the Senior Men Core Probables for the XX Commonwealth Games 2014 scheduled to take place in Glasgow (Scotland) from 23rd July – 3rd August 2014, is set to commence at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi from 25th June 2014.

Inclusion of Diwakar Ram in the 33 core probables is the highlight. He was last seen in the national camp in 2011, when Michael Nobbs had taken the charge of the team in mid-2011. Diwakar, a seasoned defender-mid-fielder and penalty corner specialist, did not make to the Indian team for Asian Champions Trophy 2014, but continued his impressive performance in domestic circuit including the best full back award in National Championship 2014 representing Uttar Pradesh, and in various other domestic tournament representing his employer ONGC.

It could be noted that another out of favor player Vickram Kanth was considered before Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 and he was in stand byes. It is still not very clear why the likes of Chhikara, Minz, etc are still ignored or they could expect a call before Asian Games 2014? Continue reading →

Pune Hockey Nationals 2013: Services, Jharkhand and Odisha win on Day 9

June 5, 2013: Services Sports Control Board, Jharkhand and Odisha won their league matches on the 9th day of Pune Hockey Nationals 2013.

In Pool C, Services Sports Control Board won their third consecutive match, as they defeated Sports Authority of India 6-1.

In Pool E, Jharkhand scored a resounding 12-2 win over Bengal with Diwakar Ram scoring a hat trick in the 6th, 14th, 37th minutes. Continue reading →
