Ranchi Rays crowned champions of #HeroHIL 2015

Ranchi Rays emerged the Champions of Hero Hockey India League 2015 with a 3-2 win in shoot-out over Jaypee Punjab Warriors in the grand finale after coming back twice to keep scores level at 2-2 in regulation time at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. Earlier in the evening, Delhi Waveriders defeated Uttar Pradesh Wizards by 2-1 to finish 3rd in the league.

Delhi Waveriders beat UP WIzards by 2-1 to finish 3rd in Hero HIL 2015

Playing for the third position, Delhi Waveriders and Uttar Pradesh Wizards met in the third place playoff match of the Hero Hockey India League 2015. Having missed the Finale berth, both the teams were determined to win and claim the position in the League. With the scores locked at 1-1 the second half was the decider session for both the teams. It was Delhi Waveriders who successfully kept the pressure on the opponents and won the match 2-1, taking home Rs. 75,00,000.

Eminent dignitaries Rajeev Shukla, Member of Parliament and Cam Vale, Hockey Australia seen enjoying the tough tussle between both the teams for the win.

Getting into their business side of the field, Uttar Pradesh Wizards were on the attack immediately as the match started, but the defence of Delhi Waveriders were more determined and cleared the danger. Delhi Waveriders earning their first penalty corner in the sixth minute missed converting, but Rupinder Pal Singh counter attacked by entering the D and scored a brilliant field goal, giving Delhi Waveriders their first goal in the match. Seconds left for the first quarter to end, Bob de Voogd standing in D got a clean pass but missed hitting the ball completely, giving the Delhi defenders a chance to save again for the team. Jaypee Punjab Warriors outclassed defending champions Delhi Waveriders by 2-0 to set-up summit clash against Ranchi Rays in Hero Hockey India League 2015 . In the first semi final, Ranchi Rays defeated Uttar Pradesh Wizards by 9-8 in sudden death shoot-out to reach finals.

With a secured berth in the semi finals of the Hero Hockey India League 2015, Ranchi Rays will play against Delhi Waveriders in their next match at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi tomorrow. While Delhi Waveriders will be looking to encash this opportunity to the maximum in order to strengthen their position in the league, Ranchi Rays will aim for a win with an intention to ascend to the top of the points table.

1st Win in the Season for Delhi Waveriders, beat Dabang Mumbai by 3-1

The defending Champions Delhi Waveriders defeated the newly formed Dabang Mumbai by 3-1 to register their 1st win in this season of Hero Hockey India League and picked 5 full points and to go up the ladder. Both the teams with two draws, one loss and no win to their credit, were seen playing for their 1st win of 2015 today at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.

Both teams were looking at putting the initial pressure on the opponent team from the word go. It was Delhi Waveriders which got its first penalty corner just 7 minutes into the game but was unlucky to capitalize on the opportunity. The breakthrough finally came in the 10th minute for the host team when Lloyd Norris Jones got a clean long pass at the opponent’s D and he made no mistake in ensuring he hit it cleanly through the legs of Dabang Mumbai goalie David Harte. Just minute left into the first quarter Lloyd Norris Jones was in action again at the opponent’s semi circle and he passed the ball to Talwinder Singh standing in front of the goal post but Talwinder could not complete the touch. In the dying seconds of the first quarter, Dabang Mumbai was awarded with a penalty corner and the chance to equalize was denied by the defence of the host team. Continue reading →

Dabang Mumbai face Waveriders in Delhi, Both Looking for 1st Win in 2015

The hosts and defending champions Delhi Waveriders will face Dabang Mumbai in the ongoing Hero Hockey India League, on 1 February 2015 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. Both Dabangs and Waveriders will be looking for their first win of the tournament, as so far none of them have registered a win to their name.

Sitting at the foot of the points table with 5 points apiece, both Dabang Mumbai and Delhi Waveriders have played three games each, drawing two and losing one, in the League as of yet. With the next game scheduled between the two, the teams will step out on the turf with their best line-up and strategies to take on each other and gain a winning momentum. This is the first time in this season of the League that these two teams will be locking horns and bringing into play the most excellent of their tried and tested strategies and game approaches against each other.
