8th February 2015: The Netherlands have achieved a dazzling double success at the Indoor Hockey World Cup, with both the men’s and women’s national teams winning the Gold medals in front of a sell-out crowd at the Arena Leipzig in Germany.

The Dutch women took their title in dramatic style, defeating host nation Germany in a shoot-out in front of a passion-filled audience. A late goal from Claire Verhage cancelled out a lead that Germany held for the majority of a pulsating match, with Netherlands keeper Adinda Alberts making three saves in the shoot-out to give the Netherlands the title and break the hearts of the host nation in the process. England Men book place in the EuroHockey Semi-Finals

England are through to the semi-finals of the TriFinance EuroHockey Championships 2013. England will now face hosts Belgium while Netherlands will be up against Germany in the Semi Finals to be played on 23rd August in Antwerp. Before a nail-biting 2-2 draw against Ireland, England had defeated Poland 5-2 in their opening pool game and lost to Netherlands (1-2) in the second game.

Tom Carson was England’s hero with two goals for his side against Ireland, but it was a real team effort to keep a determined Ireland from taking a victory.

Ireland started the brighter side, creating an early chance, but it was England who got the first goal with just seven minutes on the clock. After some good build up play and a great run across the circle by David Condon he fired his shot towards goal, which Reading’s Tom Carson deftly deflected in the air past David Harte in Ireland’s goal. In the 19th minute England were back on the score sheet. This time a pass across the circle from Barry Middleton found Carson, who again was in a perfect spot and reacted quickly to slot the ball home to make it 2-0 at half-time. Continue reading →

Darren Smith names Irish Women’s Squad for Hockey World League 2 in Valencia

Electric Ireland Irish Women’s coach Darren Smith has named his 18 players to travel to the World League 2 tournament in Valencia, Spain later this month following a 9 day training camp last week which culminated yesterday in the Green Army claiming their first victory under the new Coach with a 1-0 victory over Spain.

Irish Hockey Association LogoIreland will travel to Valencia on Thursday 21st February 2013 ahead of their opening encounter with Czech Republic on Monday 25th February 2013 before facing Belarus the following day. The Green Army will then face hosts Spain for the 4th time in a month on 2nd March 2013 before finishing off their World League 2 campaign v Italy on 3rd March 2013. Continue reading →
