Air India retain Sr Men National Championship

23 March 2014: Defending champions Air India Sports Promotion Board retained their title of Senior Men National Championship, while hosts Uttar Pradesh finished 3rd in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A).

22nd March 2014: Air India Sports Promotion Board and Comptroller & Auditor General Of India beat Uttar Pradesh and Railway Sports Promotion Board respectively to set-up summit clash of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) to be played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow tomorrow.

In the first semi-final, a tough fight was witnessed between Air India Sports Promotion Board and Uttar Pradesh where both teams showed extraordinary skills throughout the play. 20 March 2014: Hosts Uttar Pradesh, Railways and Air India Sports Promotion Board along with Comptroller & Auditor General Of India reached the semi-finals of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A).

In a Pool A match, Air India Sports Promotion Board bagged an easy win over Andhra Pradesh as they out righted the latter with a 3-0 lead till the half time of the match. The first damage of the day for Andhra Pradesh came in as a field goal in the very 5th minute of the match through Osaf Ur Rehman of Air India Sports Promotion Board supported by two more goals in the 20th minute as a field goal by Armaan Qureshi and in the 34th minute as a successful penalty corner conversion through Gaganpreet Singh. UP, Jharkhand, Services & Haryana won in Sr Nationals (A-Div) at Lucknow

15 March 2014: The host Uttar Pradesh registered third consecutive win in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) as they defeated Karnataka 2-1 in a nail biting match of Pool C played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow today. Uttar Pradesh is now leading the pool table.

Both the teams gave a tough time to each during the entire first half with both teams maintaining their attack on each other. But both the teams failed to score with the limited chances that they got. The second half started with Uttar Pradesh increasing pressure over the opponents and in the 58th minute it was Diwarkar Ram who converted the penalty corner that the team got hence helping his team taking the lead. Jharkhand immediately went on the attack and came back into the game within 7 minutes and converted the penalty corner through B P Chingappa to level scores. 14 March 2014: On the opening day for Pool A and Pool B matches of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) being played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow, Chandigarh Olympic Association, Services Sports Control Board and Comptroller & Auditor General of India, all registered their maiden win in their respective matches.

Chandigarh Olympic Association played an excellent match against Andhra Pradesh and defeated them with 4-2 in Pool A. Chandigarh Olympic Association was on a full throttle in the first half of the match as they dominated with a 2-0 lead till half time. Chandigarh’s Tarandeep Singh started off with the goal scoring spree for the team in the 9th minute of the game, followed by Navdeep Singh’s two goals in the 20th and 39th minute and Lakhwinder singh in the 51st minute.
