England are through to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Final against Australia at 20:15 local time, following a thrilling contest against world number four side New Zealand which went to a shoot out after full-time finished 1-1.

England goalkeeper Maddie Hinch became the hero, pulling off three saves in the shoot out to take her side through to the gold medal match. Hockeyroos, the Australian Women’s Hockey team, defeated South Africa comprehensively (7-1) to reach their third consecutive final of Commonwealth Games and their sixth consecutive major final since October 2012.

Scotland, 1 August 2014: India defeated the host nation Scotland by 2-1 to finish at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in women’s competition, while Malaysia and Wales won the 7th and 9th placing match.

Malaysia defeated Canada 3-0 on shoot-out after having scores tied at 2-2 at the time full-time hooter, while Wales defeated Trinidad and Tobago by 4-0 to avoid wooden spoon.
Playing for the 5th position, the Indian eves yet again proved they are a promising team who one should look out for in the near future. While their first half was a showcase of great defense along with counter attacking, it was only in the second half that the Indian forwards finally scored and won the match leaving dents in the opponent’s semi circle. England defeated the host nation by 2-1 while South Africa edged past talented Indian side by 3-2 and will now face New Zealand and Australia respectively for a place in final.
It was a very tense affair at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre with so much at stake for both teams Scotland and England, each team knowing that a win would take them through to the final four. Later in evening same was seen between India and South Africa.
South Africa scored a penalty corner goal in 14th on well worked set-piece routine. India tried hard to equalizer and finally found one, when they were awarded a penalty stroke with 2 minutes on the clock for half time. Jaspreet Kaur fired perfectly in the roof of net for getting that equalizer, but South Africa came around to earn lead once again in very next minute and few second before half time break as Chamberlain found the target on field attempt. Australia’s men’s hockey team along with New Zealand booked their place in the semi-finals of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games as they defeated India by 4-2 and England by 2-1 respectively in Pool A and Pool B with a prelim match each to spare.

India and South Africa meet on Thursday with both sides looking to join Australia in the semi-finals. While England is almost sure of a place in final four until Canada or/and Malaysia pull a major upset by defeating England and New Zealand with big margins.
In the other matches of the day, South Africa defeated Wales 5-2, while Trinidad & Tobago recorded their maiden victory against Malaysia 4-2.
A Chris Ciriello double and goals from Simon Orchard and Jake Whetton earned the Australians all three points in a match in which India provided the World Champions with their sternest test yet with a goal each from Rupinder Pal Singh and Ramandeep Singh.
