Pakistan and Malaysia in the Semis of Hockey Asia Cup

Pakistan crushed Chinese-Taipei while hosts Malaysia came back from 2 goals down to beat Japan in the concluding games of Pool A at the 9th Asia Cup. With these results Pakistan and Malaysia qualified for Friday’s semi-finals, while Japan and Chinese-Taipei will play for 5th-8th place classification (Detailed schedule and results here).

Asian Hockey Giants, Pakistan and India, either one of them will miss the bus to the Hague, have outperformed other teams till now in Ipoh, where winner takes all to book the tickets to the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014, to be played next year in June.

The Green Shirts dominated their pool to top the pool with 3 wins of 3 matches, followed by Malaysia who lost to Pakistan in pool stage.

Pakistan and Malaysia Start Asia Cup with Big Wins

After India’s thumping win over Oman in the opening game of Asia Cup 2013, Pakistan and hosts Malaysia also scored big wins against Japan and Chinese-Taipei respectively. Pakistan began their quest to earn that one elusive ticket for the 2014 World Cup with a commanding 7-0 win over Japan in Ipoh today, while Malaysia scored 10-2 victory in their opening game and last game of the day.
