England Edge New Zealand in Shoot-Out to Take Bronze at Glasgow 2014

England edged past New Zealand in a dramatic shoot out to claim Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre earlier today, while Australia outclassed India by 4-0 to win their 5th consecutive Gold at the games.

Simon Child gave New Zealand the lead with a classy finish in the 12th minute, while England saw both Iain Lewers and Ashley Jackson sin-binned in what was a heated opening period to the bronze medal match. England turned the game around in the space of three minutes when first Alastair Brogdon found the target from close range and then Jackson flicked home from a penalty corner to take a 2-1 lead, however Kiwi’s Andy Hayward equalised in the 33rd minute to bring the scores level going into the break.? Ranchi Rhinos defeated Uttar Pradesh Wizards on penalty shoot-out to claim the third place in the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi today. Seen enjoying the tough tussle between both the teams for a win were eminent dignitaries – Sudesh Mahato, Former Dy CM, Jharkhand and President, Jharkhand Hockey Federation and Dilip Tirkey, Member Rajya Sabha.

Netherlands Beat New Zealand to Finish 3rd at Rotterdam

The Black Sticks Men have finished fourth at the World League Semi-Final in Rotterdam after being defeated 4-1 by Netherlands in Sunday’s bronze medal playoff.

Raghunath Single Handedly Won HIL Bronze for Uttar Pradesh Wizards

Ranchi, 10 February 2013: Four goals, including a golden goal from skipper Raghunath right in the last minute of extra time earned Uttar Pradesh Wizards a 4-3 win over Jaypee Punjab Warriors in an absolute thriller of a third place play-off game of the Hero Hockey India League at Birsa Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Trailing 0-3 at one stage, Wizards came back with Raghunath scoring a hat-trick, all through drag flicks, to force and extra time. Raghunath then scored his fourth from another drag flick to ensure that Wizards got the bronze medal, and earned prize money of Rs 75 lakhs.

Jaypee Punjab Warriors completely dominated the first quarter. They showed a lot of intensity, and aggression, and were rewarded for it with a couple of goals. Gurmail Singh entered the Wizards’ D, and put the ball on Nithin’s leg to earn Warriors their first penalty corner. Ranchi, 10 February 2013: Jaypee Punjab Warriors would seek to set the record straight and finish on third spot in the Hero Hockey India League when they take on Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the play off at the Birsa Munda Astroturf Hockey Stadium on Sunday. In the semi-finals Warriors were outplayed by Delhi Waveriders, while Wizards were defeated by Ranchi Rhinos.

Women’s Hockey Bronze Medalist of London Olympics Hannah Macleod thanked everybody for their support and urged to return the medal of Alex Prtridge, the bronze medalist of London 2012 in Rowing (Men’s Elight).
