Day One of 2nd Hockey India Senior Men’s National Championship, Bangalore saw some surprising results. Puducherry stunned Maharashtra 7-2, while Odisha held Tamil Nadu 2-2. Defending Champions Haryana came from behind to win 2-1 against Hockey Bhopal. While in other matches Punjab rolled past Jammu and Kashmir (12-1), while Kerala won 11-0 against Gujrat. Chattisgarh got a walk over as Arunachal Pradesh did not turn up.
After opening ceremony, last match of the day was played between Air India and Madhya Pradesh, which Air India won with 4-1. The star studded team looked a little off their elements.

NEW DELHI, September 19: Defending champion Haryana has been drawn in Group A along with Maharashtra, Puducherry, Bengal and Bhopal in the 2nd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship to be held in Bengaluru from September 23 to October 2.

As many as 34 Hockey India’s member units have confirmed their participation in the Championship which will be played on a league cum knockout basis on the artificial pitches at Hockey Stadium, Langford Road (Pitch 1, aka Shantinagar Hockey Stadium) and MEG AstroTurf at MEG Centre, Banaswadi Road (Pitch 2).

Hockey India Senior (Men’s) Hockey Championship – 2012 will be played in Bangalore from 23rd September to 2nd October 2012, while Junior’s Championship will start on 1st September in Lucknow.
27 teams from across the country will participate in 2nd Hockey India Junior (Men’s) Hockey Championship, including defending champions Haryana, runners-up Odisha and third-place holders Punjab. The 9 day event will start on September 1, at the Major Dhyan Chand Astro Turf Stadium at the Guru Govind Singh Sports College in Lucknow.
A total of 36 teams, with a new entrant Border Security Forces, will participate in 2nd Hockey India Senior (Men’s) Hockey Championship, which will be played at Bangalore Hockey Stadium (Aka Shanti Nagar Hockey Stadium) and MEG Astro Turf. Continue reading →
Confident with their win at the Taluk Level tournament, Jude Felix Hockey Academy boys representing Maria Niketan School won the Allan Macbride Memorial Hockey Tournament by defeating St.Germain High School on 10th august 2012.

Maria Niketan took the lead early in the game when Robinson set up Ramario at the top of the D and slammed the ball home. Germains soon equalized from their only penalty corner of the half. Maria Niketan enjoyed territorial domination for an extended period in the 2nd half, however gave way for an equalizer by Karan Dayal of Germains. At full time, both teams had scored 2 goals each leading to extra time. The Jude Felix Hockey Academy (JFHA), Charitable Trust is traveling on a perfect path to achieve what they set themselves to do as inscribed in their mission.. “Develop hockey at the grass-root levels starting at schools, orphanages and homes, through the game enable children with important life-skills needed to successfully deal with challenges in life” Since its inception in 2009 the academy has trained around 200 children. The commitment of the coaches and volunteers is seen in the smiles of the little children as they assemble to practice Hockey every morning without fail.

Most of the children being currently trained live at St Mary’s orphanage and go to Maria Niketan School and are being taught Hockey by coaches of international repute. Through Hockey life skills and discipline which would help them grow as individuals are being imparted. We were told by coach P. Shanmugham that there has been a significant positive change in the children, they respect and care for each other a lot more than they used to. The children are given assignments on and off the field and taught values such as leadership, team-spirit, sharing, caring and are constantly encouraged for what they do. Continue reading →

Mumbai, March 28, 2012: The Bridgestone World Series Hockey announced here today that the MHA Mahindra Stadium in Mumbai will host the grand finale of the inaugural edition on April 2, 2012 at 9pm. The MHA Mahindra Stadium, which underwent massive revamping for the WSH, was chosen out of eight venues across India based on the feedback from the players playing in the league that “the quality of the turf and floodlights is superb”
The spanking new MHA Mahindra Stadium will also host the second semi-final to be played on April 1, 2012 at 9pm. Karnataka, which is one of the biggest hockey bases in the world, will host the first semi-final at the KSHA Stadium, Bengaluru, to be held at 7pm on April 1. Continue reading →
