Ireland defeated Austria in their 2nd Match of World Hockey League Round 1 (Wales)

Ireland’s men took on Austria this afternoon in Wales in their second game of World League 1- with a 5-0 win over last nights hosts Ireland continued their winning ways in a match which saw John Jermyn net a hattrick and become Ireland’s top goal scorer of all time.

The match started off seeing both sides go close but it was Ireland who took the lead when John Jermyn scored his 80th goal for Ireland with a set piece routine. The first half ensued with a disciplined performance from both sides but with only eight minutes before the break Ireland made it two again thanks to Jermyn. Continue reading →

Ireland Mens Team Announced for World League 1

Ireland’s interim coach Brendon Carolan has announced his squad which will compete at World Hockey League  1 in Cardiff from 7th/9th September.  This is the first stage in the qualification process to the next World Cup which will held in Holland in June 2014.   Four teams will compete in Cardiff with the top two teams progressing to World League 2.  The teams, venue and date for World League 2 will not be known till the end of November.

Speaking after his selection Carolan said “”I am looking forward to the Green Machine continuing on all its hard work done over the summer. We will continue to drive the teams standards of excellence throughout all events, with the World League Round 1, in Cardiff being the first phase.
