Playing a hard-fought battle against the defending champions China, the Indian Women Hockey Team went down fighting to China 1-2 in their second league match of the 17th Asian Games played at Seonhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon, South Korea today, while Indian men’s hockey team is all set for the clash against neighbouring arch-rivals Pakistan.
Liang Meiyu and Zhao Yudiao scored a goal each for China, whereas Jaspreet Kaur scored the lone goal for India. Both the teams played attacking hockey from the first minute and tried to create maximum chances. But it was China who opened the account in the 2nd quarter when the game was in the 19th minute, Liang Meiyu converted a penalty corner opportunity and opening the scorecard at 1-0. Indian Men Hockey Team today registered their second consecutive win in the 17th Asian Games as they defeated Oman 7-0 in the second match played at the Soenhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon.

Facing Thailand in their opening match of the 17th Asian Games today, the Indian Women Hockey Team starts their outing with a 3-0 win to earn full 3 points from the opener at Soenhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon. Yesterday, their men counter part defeated Sri Lanka 8-0 to start campaign on winning note.

Converting one penalty corner each successfully, it was Poonam Rani and Vice-Captain Deepika and a field goal from Vandana Katariya, ensured a 3-0 victory against Thailand and registering the team’s first win in the tournament.
Opening the first quarter, India had to wait until the 14th minute when Poonam Rani scored on set-piece in a penalty corner opportunity and opening the account for India. In the second quarter, the Thai defence stood strong and did not let India score any goal. Continue reading →
