Poonam Rani and Chanchan Devi, the members of the Indian Women Hockey Team have reached the milestone of 100 international caps.

In this journey of 100 international matches, both of them have done the country proud with their contribution since their debut at international stage with many learnings as well as experiences along with proud moments.
Poonam Rani completed her 100th international match during their European Tour against Ireland last week, Chanchan Devi completed the milestone as she entered the pitch at Glasgow National Hockey Centre in India’s first match of the FIH Champions Challenge 1 against Korea yesterday, which India lost 2-4. In the final of 3rd Women’s Hockey Asian Champions Trophy being played at Kakamigahara, Japan won the final against India to win the title for the first time. In the third place match, Malaysia defeated China by 3-1 to finish on podium.

The hosts Japan were quick off the blocks and scored from their first penalty corner in 2nd minute of the game and later on saved a flurry of attacks from gallant Indian side including a few of the penalty corners to clinch the game.
India’s Rajani E was adjudged as best Goalkeeper, while Akane Shibata of Japan was awarded as the Best Player of the Tournament.
The Japanese side earned a penalty corner in early in the game and utilized it fully through set-piece variation via tournament top scorer Arai Mazuki to early lead . Afterwards, Indians pressurized for the equalizer but could earn three penalty corner in a row, and were not able to send the ball across the goal line. Continue reading
India‘s Women Hockey team lost to the hosts Japan 1-2 in their last league match at the 3rd Asian Champions Trophy being played at Kakamigahara, while Men’s team went down fighting to neighboring arch-rival Pakistan (4-5) to bow out of the title contention.

In the other matches of the day, Malaysian Women’s team stunned higher ranked China by 1-0, while men’s competition Malaysia defeated China 5-4 and Japan beat Oman 4-0.
Indian Women’s team took 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when Chanchan Devi scored off a penalty corner. Japan got three penalty corners in the first half but Indian defense and goalkeeper denied any scoring chance to their opponents and went to lemon break with a slender lead of 1-0. Continue reading
India registered their first win in the 3rd Men’s Asian Champions Trophy, as they defeated Oman 3-0 in their third league match at the Kakamigahara, Japan today. In the other matches of the day, Pakistan pipped Malaysia by 1-0 with a penalty corner goal in the last-minute, while China defeated hosts Japan by 3-1.
India opened the scoring against the run of play in the 19th minute when a lapse from Oman defense allowed Akashdeep Singh into the circle and he made no mistake in finding the target for India, who have fielded their junior squad in the Asian Champions Trophy in a bid to prepare for next month’s Hero Hockey Junior World Cup in Delhi.
India scored their second goal in 30th minute as Prabhdeep Singh made a fine run on left flank before sending a cross into rival D. The cross came off the stick of Faiz Helmi, which was collected nicely by Talwinder Singh to score and double the lead for his side. New Delhi, 4 November 2013: The Indian Women’s Hockey team won their second consecutive match in the 3rd Women’s Asian Champions Trophy to book their berth in the final against Japan. India defeated Malaysia 5-1 and while Japan defeated China 4-1 in their second match played at Kakamigahara, Japan today.
In the match between India (12th in FIH World Ranking) and Malaysia (22nd), it was Malaysian team who scored first and took lead in the 15th minute through skipper Nadia Abdul Rahman on a penalty corner. Indian ladies bounced back to level the score in 24th minute as Poonam Rani converted a penalty corner. Both the teams were locked at 1-1 at half time. Continue reading
Indian Women Hockey team scored twice in each half as they defeated higher ranked China 4-2 in their opening match of the 3rd Asian Women Champions Trophy at Kakamigahara, Japan today, while their Men counterpart went down to Chinese Men 0-2 in Men’s Competition at the Green Stadium.

Poonam Rani scored first goal for India in the 7th minute by converting penalty corner. A minute later Amandeep Kaur scored a field goal in her debut match, while Chinese side reduced the margin at the stroke hooter with a field goal from Yao Lili to go in lemon break with 2-1 in favor of India.
After the change of ends, China put pressure on India for equalizer and managed to level the score in 58th minute their captain Hoa Weijia converted a Penalty Corner. Continue reading
