India registered their first win in the 3rd Men’s Asian Champions Trophy, as they defeated Oman 3-0 in their third league match at the Kakamigahara, Japan today. In the other matches of the day, Pakistan pipped Malaysia by 1-0 with a penalty corner goal in the last-minute, while China defeated hosts Japan by 3-1.
India opened the scoring against the run of play in the 19th minute when a lapse from Oman defense allowed Akashdeep Singh into the circle and he made no mistake in finding the target for India, who have fielded their junior squad in the Asian Champions Trophy in a bid to prepare for next month’s Hero Hockey Junior World Cup in Delhi.
India scored their second goal in 30th minute as Prabhdeep Singh made a fine run on left flank before sending a cross into rival D. The cross came off the stick of Faiz Helmi, which was collected nicely by Talwinder Singh to score and double the lead for his side.
