A landmark occasion was witnessed, as Hockey India today conferred the first ever Annual Awards to recognise the dedication and hard work of hockey players, coaches and administrators on the field to build the sport on the national and international arena. India won Hockey World Cup 40 years ago by defeating Pakistan 2-1 in Kuala Lumpur

On 15th March 1975, exactly 40 years ago, the India’s Men Hockey team had won World Cup by defeating Pakistan 2-1 in the historic Finals of the 1975 Hockey World Cup. It was a moment of pride that day and it is a moment of pride for every Indian today, but India has failed to repeat the same feat again in these 40 years.

After 3 medals in first editions, Bronze, Silver and Gold in 1971, 1973 and 1975 respectively, India has failed to make it to top four in next 10 editions till 2014. India will host the 14th edition of prestigious hockey event in 2018, we wish good luck to Indian Hockey team for the event and expect them to better their performance, when hosts best of the best hockey teams at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

Living Legends of 1975 World Cup Winning Squad to be Felicitated

7 May 2014: The players who won only World Cup title for India will be felicitated on 14th May 2014, when the Indian team for Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 is to be announced.

India won its only World Cup title in the year 1975 at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia (watch full final match between India and Pakistan here)

Hockey India has invited all 13 Living members of the 1975 World Cup winning team in the capital where they will be presented a token one-time payment of Rs. 1,75,000 each for their contribution towards ensuring that they brought home the pride to every Indian of being the World Champions that year.
