12 Sept, 2013: The 88th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament got underway today at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore, Chennai, with Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) defeating South Central Railways (SCR) and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) respectively.

Tomorrow (13th September) IOCL will take on CAG at 2:15 PM in Pool A game, Air India face Indian Bank in Pool B game at 4:00PM and the day concludes with Army XI vs IOB game in Pool A at 5:45PM under floodlights.
IOB defeated SCR 6-3 in the first match of the tournament with help of a brace each from V Shanmugam and Vinod Rayaer and a goal each from Adam Sinclair and MK Muddappa, while SCR scored via Anmol Minz, Manjeet Kullu and Suresh Toppo. Gurpreet Singh found target twice while Amar Aiyamma added one more to make it 3-0 for BPCL against SAIL in the opening game of Pool B.

10 June, 2013: Air India defeated defending Champions Punjab by 6-2 to win the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013 which concluded today at the Major Dhyan Chand Polygrass Hockey Stadium in Pimpri, Pune on Monday.

Air India got off the mark quickly and rushed ahead with 2 quick goals from Sameer Dad (2nd minute) and Affan Yousuf (3rd minute). Sameer finished after receiving the ball from Joga Singh, while Affan (eventually adjudged Man of the Championship) found the target with reverse flick. Though Punjab tried to come out and put pressure on Air India, but some brilliant defending by Ajmer Singh and tight marking of Deepak Thakur by Air India skipper Prabodh Tirkey did not give any chance to Punjab to score in 1st half. 9 June 2013: Defending champions Punjab will take on last years Runners-Up Air India in the final of 2013 Senior Men Hockey Nationals, which will be live telecasted on DD Sports. Last edition’s bronze medalists Karnataka will play Haryana in 3rd place play off match, which was the case last year also.
Affan Yousuf scored two for Air India against Haryana
Punjab registered comprehensive 5-2 win over Karnataka in 1st semi final to enter the final while Air India defeated Haryana 7-3 in second semi-final.
Leading 3-2 at the half time, Punjab scored through Deepak Thakur (10, 22 min), Gurjinder Singh (17 min0, Sarvanjit Singh (45 min) and Vikramjit Singh (58 min) while M K Muddappa (7 min) and Nikkin Thimmaiah (29 min) scored for Karnataka.
Punjab looked the better drilled outfit with a lot of character and composure while Karnataka committed far too many errors which put them on the defensive for the second half of the game. Continue reading →
8 May 2013: Air India, Haryana, Punjab and Karnataka entered the semi-finals of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013.
In the semi-finals to be played on Sunday 9 June 2013, last year’s runners-up Air India take on Haryana while Defending Champion Punjab will clash with Karnataka.
Last year’s runners-up Air India scored a hard-fought 5-4 win against Railways to win the first quarter-final match played at Major Dhyan Chand Polygrass Hockey Stadium, Pimpri in Pune today. 7 June 2013: Karnataka reached the quarter-finals of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship with a 4-2 win over Services Sports Control Board in their concluding league match of Pool C, the Nationals are underway in Pune.
Air India will face Indian Railways, Haryana will lock horns with neighbours Chandigarh in two quarter-finals which will be played on 8th June at Major Dhyan Chand Polygrass Hockey Stadium, Pimpri in Pune. New Delhi, 2 June 2013: Indian Railways, Air India and Haryana entered the quarter-finals of the Pune Hockey Nationals 2013. They defeated Namdhari XI, MPHA and Maharashtra respectively on 6th day of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013 played at Shiv Chattrapati Sports Complex in Pune to book their seats in knock out stage.
