After failing to seize their opportunities in the first two quarters, the Uttar Pradesh Wizards took control of the game after halftime and pumped in as many as four goals to make a stunning comeback in the game.
The match started on a slow pace as both the sides struggled to get their footing initially.

Uttar Pradesh Wizards produced a spirited performance to register a 3-2 come-from-behind win against the defending champions and the hosts for the day, Ranchi Rhinos, in their campaign opener to start off the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) on high note.
The Wizards, who finished third last year, twice came back from a goal down register the victory to grab five points with wining goal coming from young promising player from Haryana, Pardeep Mor.
It was Ranchi Rhinos who started the match on a positive note and took the lead in the fourth minute through their star striker Mandeep Singh who found himself at the right place at the right time to slot the ball home to register his first goal of HHIL 2014. Continue reading →

Hero Hockey India League (HIL) will kickstart with a gala opening ceremony on 7 pm at on 25th January at Mohali.This year, the league has six franchises and will be played in across Delhi, Mumbai, Mohali, Bhubaneswar, Ranchi and Lucknow over a period of almost four weeks.

The opening ceremony Hero HIL 2014 will be witnessed by the spectators at the stadium and TV viewers will be able to catch it LIVE on Star Sports. The evening divided into 9 segments will see many performances unfolding in front of them, hence giving the audience and spectators 30 minutes of absolute entertainment.
The winning team of this edition, which will start off with this gala ceremony, will take home a cash prize of Rs. 2.5cr, the runners-up team will be richer by Rs.1.25cr and the team placed at the 3rd position will take away Rs.75lacs. Youngsters and Foreign players stole the show at the Hero HIL Closed Bids held today at Hotel the Lalit in New Delhi. In the Hero Hockey India League closed bid, a total of 49 players from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Argentina, Ireland, England, South Africa and India were bought by the 6 franchises who spent a total of USD 1.37 million.
Talented Indian Forward Ramandeep Singh was the top pick today and he was bought by UP Wizards by whopping price of USD 81,000, followed by Ryan Archibald of New Zealand who was acquired by Kalinga Lancers for USD 71,000/- while Nikkin Thimmaiah (India) and Trent Mitton (Australia) were bought for USD 59,000/- by UP Wizards and Dabur Mumbai Magicians Respectively.
Out of the total 154, the list of 49 players who were sold in the bid includes 28 Indians and 21 overseas players. The newly introduced franchise Kalinga Lancers from Odisha bought 24 new players while Ranchi Rhinos bought 1 player i.e. England Captain Barry Middleton, Dabur Mumbai Magicians 11 players, Uttar Pradesh Wizards 4 players, Jaypee Punjab Warriors 5 players and Delhi Waveriders 4 players.
