Continuing on their winning streak, Jaypee Punjab Warriors defeated Kalinga Lancers by 2-1 in their second meeting of the Hero Hockey India League 2015 at Bhubaneswar today from 0-1 down at half time.

Having an advantage of playing at their home turf, Kalinga Lancers showed positive signs in the opening stages and continued dominating the possession throughout the game. Jaypee Punjab Warriors without losing hopes struggled between the sticks and tried to keep up the momentum of the game and ended up turning the tables in their favor. Both the teams started on an attacking note and displayed a well contested first quarter but unfortunately neither of the teams failed to score even a single goal.
Moving ahead to the second quarter, Kalinga Lancers seemed to be more structured and confident with their strategies and showcased brilliant defence work. It was in the 24th minute that gritty Gurjinder Singh gave Kalinga Lancers a much awaited lead with a penalty corner conversion through a brilliant drag-flick. Jaypee Punjab Warriors defeated Delhi Waveriders by 3-1 after going down 0-1 early in the 10th league match of Hero Hockey India League 2015, played at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi today. Winning two matches and drawing one, the Jamie Dwyer-led Jaypee Punjab Warriors clinched the match after a spirited action-packed game against their arch-rivals Delhi Waveriders in front of a cheering crowd.

It was forward player Simon Child, who opened the account for Delhi Waveriders in the third minute of the match when he and his team-mate Akashdeep were charging the defenders from both the flanks. Akashdeep received a long pass from the New Zealand defender Andrew Hayward to his left and he dribbled-past a few defenders before hitting the ball hard into the box without giving any chance to Jaypee Punjab Warriors’ Dutch goalkeeper Jaap Stockman and Simon Child made sure the ball crossed the baseline. Displaying excellent teamwork, both helped the Delhi team to take the lead by 1-0 and putting pressure on their opponents early in the match. The Uttar Pradesh Wizards seized the early initiative and opened the scoring in the 7th minute through VR Raghunath, who successfully converted the penalty corner with a powerful flick to get his first goal of this edition. Giving a speedy start to the game, both Kalinga Lancers and Jaypee Punjab Warriors were seen in an attacking mode, trying to penetrate each other’s D and taking the lead in the game from the first quarter itself.
