New Delhi, 13 January 2013: Hockey lovers across the world would be treated to a mouth-watering outlay of high quality hockey with the inaugural edition of the Hero Hockey India League set to kick off with the opening encounter between Delhi Waveriders and Jaypee Punjab Warriors at the Major Dhyan Chand National stadium here on Monday.

The Jaypee Punjab Warriors have been in Jalandhar since the 6th of January, practicing and bonding with each other under the guidance of Team Head Coach Barry Dancer, along with former Indian captains Jagbir Singh and Mohammed Riaz.
Talking about the team’s visit to the temple, Barry Dancer, Team Head coach said, “The team has bonded very well, and after our practice sessions, we wanted to visit the holy shrine and seek blessings of Harmandir Sahib before we embark on our mission to win the trophy. Jalandhar, January 08, 2013: Jaypee Group, Rs 20,000 Crore infrastructural conglomerate which has bought Jaypee Punjab Warriors team to participate in the Hockey India League, today emphasized that the Group has bought the Punjab based team to give local youngsters an opportunity to train and play with the best of national and international players.

16 Dec 2012: Today, the players’ auctions of Hockey India League (HIL), a professional league for field hockey competition in India, were held in the capital city of India, New Delhi. The tournament, organized by Hockey India, will be contested among six franchisee-based teams consisting of players from India and around the world.
Though only five franchises namely, Delhi WAVERIDERS, Mumbai Magicians, Punjab Warriors, Ranchi Rhinos and Uttar Pradesh Wizards are decided till date, the auctions were completed and teams were decided. Each team consists of 14 Indian and 10 overseas players and are given at the end of this article.
