Ranchi Rays bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Dabang Mumbai in Mumbai after losing their 1st match to Kalinga Lancers. After conceding a goal in the 3rd quarter in Mahindra Hockey Stadium, Ranchi Rays turned the match to their side with the help of double strike from Barry Middleton and defeated the host team by 2-1 in the 4th match of the Hero HIL 2015.

In the 1st quarter, Ranchi Rays successfully kept the ball in their possession and dominated the quarter with their high-spirited game. They continuously attacked on the opponents’ half and created many opportunities, but they faced the strong defence of Dabang Mumbai, who restricted their attacks. Ranchi Rays got their best chance to score where they managed to earn a crucial penalty corner in the 15th minute. With the 3rd edition of Hero Hockey India League stepping in to its fourth day tomorrow, the talented bunch of Kalinga Lancers are all set to challenge Jaypee Punjab Warriors at the latter’s home ground Hockey Stadium, Mohali. While the Lancers are upbeat after their early win against the Ranchi Rays, the hosts will be looking forward to their first win post a 3-3 draw against Dabang Mumbai in their opening match yesterday.

Playing their first match against Dabang Mumbai yesterday and trailing by 0 goal to 1 till half time, Jaypee Punjab Warriors came back strong in the third quarter and turned the tables in their favour. Ranchi Rays and newly formed Dabang Mumbai are gearing up to face each tomorrow at the latter’s home ground in the pool stage of the Hero Hockey India League. While Ranchi Rays played and lost its first match against Kalinga Lancers yesterday which was also the inaugural match of the League, Dabang Mumbai will play their second match against Ranchi Rays post playing a 3-3 against last edition’s finalists Jaypee Punjab Warriors today at Mumbai.
Playing their first match yesterday, the Ashley Jackson led Ranchi Rays lost their match against the boys of Jude Felix. The key take away from the match against Kalinga Lancers was Ashley Jackson’s 2 penalty corner conversions and Barry Middleton’s beautifully penetrated field goal.

On the second day of the Hero Hockey India League 2015, the turf of Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in Lucknow witnessed a high voltage, neck-to-neck clash between the home team Uttar Pradesh Wizards and the Defending Champions Delhi Waveriders where the game ended in a draw, with a score of 2-2, confirming that the Uttar Pradesh Wizards’ team, this year, is here with a determination to give a tough fight to their opponents in the League.

After a goalless first quarter, the opening goal of the match was scored in the second quarter when Uttar Pradesh Wizards were awarded a penalty stroke and Jeroen Hertzberger made the most out of the opportunity as he successfully put the ball in the net. This gave the home team a much-needed lead of 1-0 over Delhi Waveriders. Not deterred by this pressure, Delhi Waveriders made a rapid comeback as Steven Edwards soon scored a leveller in the same quarter, breaching the sturdy guard of goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. Determined Kalinga Lancers claimed a spectacular win against Ranchi Rays 6-3 in the inaugural match of the 3rd Hero Hockey India League at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium, Bhubaneswar today.
The match between the two teams turned out to be exciting as it rained goals throughout the entire 60 minutes. Though Kalinga Lancers had a benefit of their home turf, it did not disappoint the hopes of Ranchi Rays who stood confident enough to give a strong challenge to the opponents.

Dabang Mumbai and Jaypee Punjab Warriors will be seen battling it out in their Hockey India League 2015 opener on 23 January 2015 (tomorrow) at 1900 HRS (IST) at Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai and will be telecasted LIVE on Star Sports, while Delhi Waveriders will take on Uttar Pradesh Wizards at 1500 HRS (IST). Entry to the stadium for all the Hockey India League matches in Lucknow is free.
Last when both the teams had met was in the semi-final match of the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League wherein UP Wizards lost the match to Delhi Waveriders which stopped them from reaching the Finale.
