Hockey India League names three Indians and three Overseas players as Marquee Players

NEW DELHI, November 29: Hockey India League has named its Brand Ambassadors Sardar Singh (India) and Jamie Dwyer (Australia) as well as the world’s most capped player Teun de Nooijer (the Netherlands), Germany’s double Olympic gold medallist Moritz Fürste and Indians Sandeep Singh and SV Sunil as Marquee Players for the December 16 Hockey India League Auction.

HIL postponed to January 17, Players’ Auction is deferred to Dec 16

 NEW DELHI, November 26: The Governing Council of Hockey India League has decided to defer the Hockey India League Players’ Auction by a fortnight to December 16 and the start of the Hockey India League to January 17, 2013. The League will now conclude on February 17, 2013.

India’s 152 players in the Hockey India League Players’ Auction

NEW DELHI, November 21: Hockey India Secretary General and Hockey India League Chairman Dr Narinder Batra expressed confidence that the quality of competition in the inaugural edition of the tournament, scheduled from January 5 to February 3, 2013, would be very high and that the Indian players would draw a great deal from the event.

HIL Players’ Auction: 24 Australians & 15 Pakistani among 91 overseas players

NEW DELHI, November 19: As many as 24 Australian hockey players, including all 16 members of the squad that won the bronze medal in the Olympic Games at London earlier this year, are among the 91 overseas players who have signed up for the Hockey India League Players’ Auction to be held here in December in the run up to the six-team event in early 2013.

“A look at the list of players will assure the hockey fraternity that it is in for an intensely competitive event from 5 January to 3 February 2013,” said Hockey India Secretary-General and Hockey India League Chairman Dr Narinder Batra. “We are confident that the quality of hockey on view in the 33 matches will be very high and exciting.

“We are happy that a vast majority of the world’s best players from 12 countries besides over 150 Indians have made themselves available for Hockey India League,” Dr Batra said.  “It will be of particular interest to hockey lovers here that, with 15 players in the Auction, Pakistan is second only to Australia in terms of numbers. World’s Highest capped Teun de Nooijer is set to join Hockey India League Player’s Auction

New Delhi, November 15: Teun de Nooijer, 36 is the highest capped player in the world who represented The Netherlands in 453 international matches is among the eight stars from the country who will feature in the player’s auction to be held in December in New Delhi for the most prestigious Hockey India League in January next year.

Dutch Midfielder Teun de Nooijer who made his debut in 1994 against New Zealand has always been a key member of the Dutch team that participated in 4 Olympic Games including Atlanta 1996 (Gold), Sydney 2000 (Gold), Athens 2004 (Silver) and London 2012 (Silver) with three World Cups including Utrecht 1998 (Gold), Kuala Lumpur 2006 (Bronze) and New Delhi (Bronze). Having earned FIH World Player of the year award in 2003, 2005 and 2006 Teun de Nooijer participated in as many as nine Champions Trophy tournaments since 2000.

Floris Evers, skipper of the Silver medal winning Netheralands team during Olympic Games in London this year is also set to join the league. With 230 caps, the 29 year old Floris Evers has a vast experience in the dutch side. He has been key member of the Netherlands team that won silver medal during Athens Olympic Games 2004. Burmans take up Mumbai Franchise of Hockey India League

NEW DELHI, November 14: The Burman family, promoters of the consumer conglomerate Dabur India Ltd, has bought the Mumbai franchise of the prestigious Hockey India League (HIL) that aims to give hockey a new profile. The western megapolis joins Delhi, Lucknow, Ranchi and Punjab as the fifth team in the Hockey India League.
