Hockey India League Schedule is Out

First Match will be Played on 14 January 2013; Final is on 10 February (Full schedule here)

NEW DELHI, 20 December 2012: The Hockey India League (HIL) announced their inaugural season 2013 match schedule, which will start from 14 January and finish on 10 February.

Hockey India League LogoThe world’s prominent hockey league will feature 34 matches in 28 days and will be played in five franchisee cities – Delhi, Jalandhar, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ranchi.

The opening ceremony will be held on 14 January at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi just before the first match of the League, where Delhi Waveriders will face Jaypee Punjab Warriors, featuring Australian hockey star Jamie Dwyer, at 20:00 hrs. Continue reading →

Hockey India League Teams after Players’ Auctions

16 Dec 2012: Today, the players’ auctions of Hockey India League (HIL), a professional league for field hockey competition in India, were held in the capital city of India, New Delhi. The tournament, organized by Hockey India, will be contested among six franchisee-based teams consisting of players from India and around the world.

Hockey India League LogoThough only five franchises namely, Delhi WAVERIDERS, Mumbai Magicians, Punjab Warriors, Ranchi Rhinos and Uttar Pradesh Wizards are decided till date, the auctions were completed and teams were decided. Each team consists of 14 Indian and 10 overseas players and are given at the end of this article.

Gregg Clark and Baljit Singh Saini to Coach Ranchi Rhinos

NEW DELHI, December 14: Ranchi Rhinos, one of the franchisees of Hockey India League is pleased to announce its support staff for the inaugural season starting from 16th January, 2013. David Ian John, a vastly experienced Exercise Physiologist from Australia, who worked with Indian National Men’s Hockey Team for almost 18 months. During his tenure our national team has won medals in tournaments like Asian Champions Trophy, Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and many others. Mr David has landed in the city this morning from Australia for participation in the Players’ auction to be held on 16th December.

Hockey India League signs Teun de Nooijer as its third Brand Ambassador

New Delhi, December 15: Hockey India League is pleased to announce three times FIH World Player of the Year Teun de Nooijer as its third Brand Ambassador for the Hockey India League due to start in January 2013.

Barry Anderson named Hockey India League Tournament Director

NEW DELHI, December 2: Hockey India League (HIL) has appointed the seasoned Barry Anderson as Tournament Director for the six-team franchise-based event to be held from 17 January 2013.

Hockey India Secretary General and Hockey India League Chairman Dr. Narinder Batra said the appointment of Mr. Anderson is a major step towards ensuring that the league is technically well conducted. “Together with Steve Catton’s appointment as Competitions Director, Barry’s coming on board as Tournament Director will make this a great event,” he said.

Mr. Anderson said he was delighted to have been appointed Tournament Director. “I am also looking forward to working with Hockey India, world class hockey players and team officials as well as some top class umpires and technical officials to make sure that the Hockey India League is well and truly a top-notch tournament.
