Kalinga Lancers, might have lost badly (5-0) in their 1st encounter against Delhi Waveriders, but today at the Kalinga Stadium, the Odisha outfit put up a brave fight against the Delhi franchise and went down by 4-3 in the league match of Hero Hockey India League 2014.

As expected, the Delhi Waveriders seized the early initiative and opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Rupinderpal Singh, who made use of their first penalty corner with a powerful flick to notch up his fourth goal of the tournament.

In the match between the two bottom-placed teams of the league so far, the Lancers performed better than the Magicians, who returned with the wooden-spoon from the inaugural edition of the league.
The Lancers dictated the terms in the match for the entire 70 minutes and created more scoring opportunities as the Mumbai outfit mostly played a catch-up game, as the young Lancers’ custodian Harjot Singh, who later adjudged as Man-of-the-Match, pulled up some brilliant saves to win the match for his team. Hosts Delhi Waveriders outclassed relatively inexperienced side Kalinga Lancers 5-0 to register their second win in the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League (HHIL).

With this win at home, the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, the Waveriders have reached at the top of the Points Table of the league with 11 points and are just ahead of Jaypee Punjab Warriors on the basis of better goal difference. Kalinga Lancers were defeated 7-3 by Jaypee Punjab Warriors in debutant Kalinga’s first ever Hero Hockey India League as the Warriors recorded their second consecutive victory in this edition to reach to the top of the points table.

Kalinga Lancers, jointly owned by Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) and Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL) and coached by Indian men’s team chief coach Terry Walsh, witnessed a nightmarish debut in the HIL, which a franchise-based league, at the newly-laid Astroturf of the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.

Team Kalinga Lancers the sixth team and the latest entrant this year in the Hero Hockey India League is all set to start their journey with a clash against Jaypee Punjab Warriors tomorrow at the all new stadium in Bhubaneswar after grand ceremony, which is expected to be Bobaal (out of the world).
The crowd will witness superstars Akash Das Nayak and Anu Choudhary and internationally acclaimed dancers locking and popping to a popular dance number. Harihar Dar the dancing sensation will also be seen putting the stage on fire. Riding high on glamour, the ceremony will also witness a spectacular sound and light show and an equally eye-dazzling laser show.
