Dabur Mumbai Magicians recorded their first win in the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL), beating debutants Kalinga Lancers 3-2 in an entertaining league match at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai today.

It took Dabur Mumbai Magicians nine games to register their first victory in the league, while for Kalinga Lancers it was a disappointing end to their maiden campaign in the six-team tournament.

Kalinga Lancers were in control of the match for major part of 70 minutes to avenge upon their 2-3 loss at the hands of same opponents in their previous meeting this year.
The first quarter saw both the teams adopting a cautious approach and were content to play the waiting game.

In their must win match to stay alive in the tournament, Kalinga Lancers started on a bright note and dominated the early share of exchanges.
The hosts had the first shot at goal but centre forward Amir Khan fumbled with only the Uttar Pradesh Wizards goalkeeper George Bazeley to beat.

Debutants Kalinga Lancers, have been improving with every match they played in the Hero Hockey India League and the Odisha outfit held second-placed Jaypee Punjab Warriors for a 3-3 draw in a hard-fought league match of the second edition of HHIL in Mohali.

Both the teams started cautiously as they seemed in no mood to give initial openings to the other. But in the end both the teams had to satisfy with 2 points each.
Kalinga Lancers stunned the home team and surged ahead in the 10th minute when the local boy Gagandeep Singh scored a field goal to the left of Jaypee Punjab Warriors goalkeeper Bharat Chetri after getting a feed from the right flank.
Jaypee Punjab Warriors, however, did not sit back and pressed hard in search of the equalizer and in the process earned two penalty corners in succession, the second of which was converted by Australian Christopher Ciriello in the 18th minute to level the scores.

Uttar Pradesh Wizards scored an easy 3-1 win over debutants Kalinga Lancers in a league match at the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) in Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow today.

UP Wizards scored two goals in the first two quarters while their third goal came just seconds from the final hooter.
Skipper V R Raghunath gave UP Wizards the lead in the 17th minute by converting a penalty corner before young striker Nikkin Thimmaiah doubled the home team’s lead in the 41st minute with a field strike.
Kalinga Lancers, however, pulled a goal back in the 59th minute through their star drag-flicker Gonzalo Peillat who found the back of UP Wizards net from a penalty corner to raise his team’s hopes.

Ranchi Rhinos started the match as favourites and took the lead in the sixth minute of the match through Englishman Ashley Jackson’s strike on first penalty corner of Rhinos as he scored his third goal of the tournament.
Kalinga Lancers had a few share of attacks in the first quarter but the moves were not incisive to create any trouble for Ranchi Rhinos defense.
