The first quarter of the game saw the home team being awarded with a penalty corner. V R Raghunath took the strike and without leaving any room for mistakes, very efficiently put the ball in the net. The ball swiftly passed through the sturdy guards of Kalinga Lancers’ goalkeeper Andrew Charter before touching the nets and announced an early lead of 1-0 for the Uttar Pradesh Wizards over Kalinga Lancers. Despite a number of scoring attempts by both the teams in the subsequent quarter, none could materialize the chances and the second quarter remained goal-less. Taking their performance a notch higher in the ongoing Hero Hockey India League 2015, Jaypee Punjab Warriors defeated Kalinga Lancers by 4-2 at their home turf in Mohali at the International Hockey Stadium. Riding on Man-of-the-Match performance and two goals of Kookaburras Jamie Dwyer, the Punjab side recorded their first win in their second match of league’s 3rd edition.

Giving a speedy start to the game, both Kalinga Lancers and Jaypee Punjab Warriors were seen in an attacking mode, trying to penetrate each other’s D and taking the lead in the game from the first quarter itself. Determined Kalinga Lancers claimed a spectacular win against Ranchi Rays 6-3 in the inaugural match of the 3rd Hero Hockey India League at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium, Bhubaneswar today.
The match between the two teams turned out to be exciting as it rained goals throughout the entire 60 minutes. Though Kalinga Lancers had a benefit of their home turf, it did not disappoint the hopes of Ranchi Rays who stood confident enough to give a strong challenge to the opponents.

The 2nd day of 3rd Hero Hockey India League will see double, in first one defending champions Delhi Waveriders take on Uttar Pradesh Wizards in Lucknow and Jaypee Punjab Warriors will challenge Dabang Mumbai in Mumbai.

Dabang Mumbai and Jaypee Punjab Warriors will be seen battling it out in their Hockey India League 2015 opener on 23 January 2015 (tomorrow) at 1900 HRS (IST) at Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai and will be telecasted LIVE on Star Sports, while Delhi Waveriders will take on Uttar Pradesh Wizards at 1500 HRS (IST). Entry to the stadium for all the Hockey India League matches in Lucknow is free.
Last when both the teams had met was in the semi-final match of the second edition of the Hero Hockey India League wherein UP Wizards lost the match to Delhi Waveriders which stopped them from reaching the Finale. With Uttar Pradesh Wizards looking at pay back where they lost to Delhi Waveriders by 1 goal to 0, Sardar Singh led team would be aware of this and will not allow the opponents of getting the better of them.
