Kalinga Lancers, might have lost badly (5-0) in their 1st encounter against Delhi Waveriders, but today at the Kalinga Stadium, the Odisha outfit put up a brave fight against the Delhi franchise and went down by 4-3 in the league match of Hero Hockey India League 2014.

As expected, the Delhi Waveriders seized the early initiative and opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Rupinderpal Singh, who made use of their first penalty corner with a powerful flick to notch up his fourth goal of the tournament.

Jaypee Punjab Warriors defeated Delhi Waveriders for the first time in Hero Hockey India League, with a 3-1 victory in a keenly contested match.

With this third consecutive win, Warriors jumped to the top of the standings in the second edition of Hero HIL. Sandeep Singh (8th minute), Satbir Singh (64th) and Shivendra Singh (66th) scored a goal each for the Punjab outfit, while Delhi Waveriders’ lone goal came from the sticks of Rupinderpal Singh (65th).
On a cold January night, both Jaypee Punjab Warriors and Delhi Waveriders dished out fast, attacking end-to-end hockey to produce one of the best games of the league so far.

With this win at home, the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, the Waveriders have reached at the top of the Points Table of the league with 11 points and are just ahead of Jaypee Punjab Warriors on the basis of better goal difference. Defending champions Ranchi Rhinos edged past last edition’s finalists Delhi Waveriders by 1-0 to register their first win in the Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) 2014 in a keenly contested league match at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Ranchi today.

It took the Rhinos 63 minutes to break the deadlock through Jackson, who converted a set-piece to open the hosts’ account in the second edition of HHIL.
With two last year’s finalists in action in reigning champions Ranchi Rhinos and runners-up Delhi Waveriders, it was expected to be a close contest and it turned out to be one as both the teams matched each other stick by stick.
Still reeling from their 2-3 defeat at the hands of Uttar Pradesh Wizards in their tournament opener, the Ranchi Rhinos however started on a positive note and put Delhi Waveriders defense under pressure early on.

The runners-up of the inaugural edition, Waveriders started from where they left last year and kept their record by winning all 5 encounters against the Warriors.
It was nice to see the likes of Arjun Halappa, Rajpal Singh, Vikram Pillay in action for Delhi team, as youngsters stole the show. The opening goal of the 2nd HIL came from the stick of Talwindar Singh for the Waveriders, while young charismatic forward from Bhopal Affan Yousuf equalized for the Warriors. Continue reading →
