Riding on Simon Child’s double strike and Gurbaj Singh’s man-of-the-match performance, Delhi Waveriders defeated Dabang Mumbai by 3-1 in a must win game in order to move closer to the semi-final spot in the ongoing Hero Hockey India League 2015.

It was Delhi Waveriders who scored the maiden goal in the first quarter and led the game 1-0 till the end of the third quarter. Goals started coming in the fourth quarter where Dabang Mumbai made their sole strike and Delhi Waveriders added two more to the tally, ending the game with a 3-1 win. The defending champions Delhi Waveriders are looking forward to face Dabang Mumbai at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai tomorrow at 1900HRS IST. The hosts are yet to claim their first victory in the Hockey India League.

The previous clash between both the teams proved to be fruitful for Delhi Waveriders who registered their first win in the League in Delhi with a 3-1 score. Delhi Waveriders clearly dominated the game in all four quarters not giving the opponent’s forwards any opportunity to get the better of them. The defending Champions Delhi Waveriders defeated the newly formed Dabang Mumbai by 3-1 to register their 1st win in this season of Hero Hockey India League and picked 5 full points and to go up the ladder. Both the teams with two draws, one loss and no win to their credit, were seen playing for their 1st win of 2015 today at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.

Both teams were looking at putting the initial pressure on the opponent team from the word go. It was Delhi Waveriders which got its first penalty corner just 7 minutes into the game but was unlucky to capitalize on the opportunity. The breakthrough finally came in the 10th minute for the host team when Lloyd Norris Jones got a clean long pass at the opponent’s D and he made no mistake in ensuring he hit it cleanly through the legs of Dabang Mumbai goalie David Harte. Just minute left into the first quarter Lloyd Norris Jones was in action again at the opponent’s semi circle and he passed the ball to Talwinder Singh standing in front of the goal post but Talwinder could not complete the touch. The hosts and defending champions Delhi Waveriders will face Dabang Mumbai in the ongoing Hero Hockey India League, on 1 February 2015 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. Both Dabangs and Waveriders will be looking for their first win of the tournament, as so far none of them have registered a win to their name.

Sitting at the foot of the points table with 5 points apiece, both Dabang Mumbai and Delhi Waveriders have played three games each, drawing two and losing one, in the League as of yet. With the next game scheduled between the two, the teams will step out on the turf with their best line-up and strategies to take on each other and gain a winning momentum. Jaypee Punjab Warriors defeated Delhi Waveriders by 3-1 after going down 0-1 early in the 10th league match of Hero Hockey India League 2015, played at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi today. Winning two matches and drawing one, the Jamie Dwyer-led Jaypee Punjab Warriors clinched the match after a spirited action-packed game against their arch-rivals Delhi Waveriders in front of a cheering crowd.

It was forward player Simon Child, who opened the account for Delhi Waveriders in the third minute of the match when he and his team-mate Akashdeep were charging the defenders from both the flanks. Akashdeep received a long pass from the New Zealand defender Andrew Hayward to his left and he dribbled-past a few defenders before hitting the ball hard into the box without giving any chance to Jaypee Punjab Warriors’ Dutch goalkeeper Jaap Stockman and Simon Child made sure the ball crossed the baseline. Displaying excellent teamwork, both helped the Delhi team to take the lead by 1-0 and putting pressure on their opponents early in the match. Playing the first match on their home turf in Hero Hockey India League 2015, Delhi Waveriders is all geared up to take on Jaypee Punjab Warriors tomorrow at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. Both the teams last met at the finals of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League 2014 where Delhi Waveriders defeated Jaypee Punjab Warriors to claim the prestigious title. This year around while Delhi will yet again look at achieving the same feat, Punjab, with its formidable line-up, will aim to defeat the hosts tomorrow.
