The third edition of Hero Hockey India League (HIL 2015) has reached its business with semi-finals and finals scheduled to be played this weekend at Major Dhyan Chand National Hockey Stadium in New Delhi. With Uttar Pradesh Wizards facing Ranchi Rays and Jaypee Punjab Warriors taking on Delhi Waveriders for places in finals, the HIL 2015 is in interesting stage where Delhi team is looking for third successive final appearance while Wizards have set their eyes on first ever appearance in the summit clash of the league.

It is a clash which Jaypee Punjab Warriors have been waiting for since the Finale of the second season of Hero HIL. The aim is to undo that result and finish the job with a win. Last time the two teams met the match was drawn at 2-2. While it was Delhi Waveriders which had opened the match strongly, Ranchi Rays came back into the game and ensured that they drew the match. Facing each other for the first time in the Hero Hockey India League 2015, Delhi Waveriders and hosts Kalinga Lancers gave a tough fight to each other as they settled for a 2-2 draw at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, today.
Kalinga Lancers will hosts Dabang Mumbai tomorrow, when the two sides met in Mumbai, both Kalinga Lancers and Dabang Mumbai gave a tough fight to each other but Dabang Mumbai managed to edge past Kalinga Lancers by a margin of just one goal. Currently, both the teams are sitting at the bottom of the Pool Table and will be striving to conquer the match in order to avoid finishing at the last position in the league.

An energetic first quarter of the match saw both Kalinga Lancers and Delhi Waveriders in an attacking mode as both the sides were trying to score the first goal in the match. Where Yuvraj Walmiki of Delhi Waveriders made a good run into the opponent’s D and failed to score the goal, Lucas Vila of Kalinga Lancers on the other hand, made a similar run but did not make any mistakes while firing in a field goal in the third minute of the game itself, helping Kalinga Lancers to take the lead by 1-0. Kalinga Lancers were dominating the first quarter as they were now penetrating Delhi Waveriders’ D more frequently, but goalkeeper Nicolas Jacobi with his perfect saves and atheletic skills, did not allow Kalinga Lancers to add any further goals to their lead. Playing its seventh game of the League tomorrow against Kalinga Lancers, the Sardar Singh led Delhi Waveriders will bring into play their finest line-up and strategies with an aim to register a win against the Lancers and add five more points to its present tally. Last edition’s finalists, Jaypee Punjab Warriors scored 7 past the defending Champions Delhi Waveriders to be the first team to reach Semi Finals of 3rd Hero Hockey India League 2015 in style. The match saw second hattrick of the season as Indian drag flick specialist Sandeep Singh scored 3 goals for his team.
Jaypee Punjab Warriors stuck to the plan chalked out by Head Coach Barry Dancer, to start the game with speed rather than coming into form slowly and in the process allowing the opponents to score the initial goals. Following the strategy, Jaypee Punjab Warriors struck just ten minutes into the game and thereon there was no looking back as they rained goals on the defending Champions leaving them stunned and frustrated.

In the first quarter of the match, table-toppers Jaypee Punjab Warriors started the match with their skilful domination and acute ball possession while keeping the visitors busy with their continuous attacks. In the tenth minute, Jaypee Punjab Warriors managed to earn a crucial penalty corner where the teams’ deadly duo – Jamie Dwyer and Sandeep Singh – took their favourite positions. Among the world’s best drag-flickers, Australia’s Jamie injected the ball into the pack and Sandeep Singh did not waste a moment to hit the ball hard into the box, beating Delhi Waveriders’ defenders and goal-keeper Rassie Pieterse.
