Mumbai Magicians beat Kalinga Lancers 3-2 to register first win in HIL 2014

Dabur Mumbai Magicians recorded their first win in the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL), beating debutants Kalinga Lancers 3-2 in an entertaining league match at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai today.

It took Dabur Mumbai Magicians nine games to register their first victory in the league, while for Kalinga Lancers it was a disappointing end to their maiden campaign in the six-team tournament.

Delhi Waveriders beat Magicians 5-3 at Mumbai in HIL Match

Table toppers Delhi Waveriders rounded off their league campaign at the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) in style, beating Dabur Mumbai Magicians 5-3 in a high-scoring match at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai.

Delhi Waveriders started the match as favourites and took the lead in the third minute through Yuvraj Walmiki, who got a deflection from Akashdeep Singh’s rebound shot.

Dabur Mumbai Magicians, however, drew level seven minutes later when Glenn Turner (10th minute) scored a field goal before Delhi Waveriders restored their lead in the next minute through veteran Rajpal Singh’s 11th minute) field strike.

It was an entertaining first quarter as both the teams matched each other stick by stick but it was the visitors who enjoyed a slender one goal lead at the first break. Continue reading →

Ranchi Rhinos edge past Mumbai Magicians with early strike of Reid Ross

Defending champion Ranchi Rhinos scored an early goal to beat Dabur Mumbai Magicians in a hard-fought league match of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai today.

Dabur Mumbai Magicians had the first shot at goal early in the game but Bharat Chikkara’s try from inside the circle went wide.

Ranchi Rhinos ceased the opportunity that came their way and surged ahead in the 11th minute when Justin Reid Ross scored from a rebound with a full blooded forehand shot.

Punjab Warriors beat Mumbai Magicians at Mumbai in HIL

Jaypee Punjab Warriors beat Dabur Mumbai Magicians 4-1 in a league match in the Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) 2014 at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai.

The win consolidated Jaypee Punjab Warriors position to second in the standings with 23 points from six outings ahead of last year’s runners-up Delhi Waveriders, who have so far garnered 29 points from eight matches and are presently atop the leaderboard.

Dabur Mumbai Magicians, on the other hand, are at the bottom of the table with just six points from as many matches.

Jaypee Punjab Warriors took the early lead through a field goal by SV Sunil in the third minute of the match.

Delhi Waveriders edged past 2-1 Dabur Mumbai Magicians to consolidate their first position in the points table of the Hero Hockey India League 2014 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi today, as Yuvraj Walmiki deflected in to score the winning goal for his team.

After a relatively quiet start, the match gathered pace in the second half as both the teams displayed fine exhibition of hockey.

But the match witnessed a sedate start and was devoid of any real action on the turf in the first quarter as the two teams took time to settle down.

The match, however, suddenly livened up in the second quarter with Delhi Waveriders doing bulk of the attacking and from one such attack broke the deadlock in the 20th minute through young Akashdeep Singh. Continue reading →

Mumbai Magicians hold Ranchi Rhinos for 1-1 Draw

The defending champions Ranchi Rhinos were held for draw by a much improved and spirited Dabur Mumbai Magicians in a league match of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi today.

It took the Ranchi Rhinos 52 minutes to open the scoring through Justin Reid Ross before Dabur Mumbai Magicians equalized six minutes later through Trent Mitton (58th minute) to split the points as their Irish Goalkeeper David Harte pulled out a man-of-the-match performance including saving a penalty stroke.

Dabur Mumbai Magicians made a promising start and dominated the early share of possession.
