First Win for Dabang Mumbai, beat Kalinga Lancers 2-1

Hosts Dabang Mumbai kept their nerves to edge past Kalinga Lancers by 2-1 to record their first win in Hero Hockey India League. With the win in a must win match for both the teams, the Mumbai side mentored by former Indian Hockey Captain Viren Rasquinha earned five points to close the point’s gap with Delhi Waveriders and be in contention for a place in semi final.

Opening seconds of the first quarter saw Kalinga Lancers immediately attack the D of Dabang Mumbai and Lucas Vila missed a golden opportunity to score for his team. Five minutes into the quarter Dabang Mumbai got their first penalty corner but was missed by Tom Boon. Simon Child’s Brace help Delhi Waveriders in beating Dabang Mumbai

Riding on Simon Child’s double strike and Gurbaj Singh’s man-of-the-match performance, Delhi Waveriders defeated Dabang Mumbai by 3-1 in a must win game in order to move closer to the semi-final spot in the ongoing Hero Hockey India League 2015.

It was Delhi Waveriders who scored the maiden goal in the first quarter and led the game 1-0 till the end of the third quarter. Goals started coming in the fourth quarter where Dabang Mumbai made their sole strike and Delhi Waveriders added two more to the tally, ending the game with a 3-1 win. 1st Win in the Season for Delhi Waveriders, beat Dabang Mumbai by 3-1

The defending Champions Delhi Waveriders defeated the newly formed Dabang Mumbai by 3-1 to register their 1st win in this season of Hero Hockey India League and picked 5 full points and to go up the ladder. Both the teams with two draws, one loss and no win to their credit, were seen playing for their 1st win of 2015 today at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi.

Both teams were looking at putting the initial pressure on the opponent team from the word go. It was Delhi Waveriders which got its first penalty corner just 7 minutes into the game but was unlucky to capitalize on the opportunity. The breakthrough finally came in the 10th minute for the host team when Lloyd Norris Jones got a clean long pass at the opponent’s D and he made no mistake in ensuring he hit it cleanly through the legs of Dabang Mumbai goalie David Harte. Just minute left into the first quarter Lloyd Norris Jones was in action again at the opponent’s semi circle and he passed the ball to Talwinder Singh standing in front of the goal post but Talwinder could not complete the touch. In the dying seconds of the first quarter, Dabang Mumbai was awarded with a penalty corner and the chance to equalize was denied by the defence of the host team. Continue reading →

Dabang Mumbai face Waveriders in Delhi, Both Looking for 1st Win in 2015

The hosts and defending champions Delhi Waveriders will face Dabang Mumbai in the ongoing Hero Hockey India League, on 1 February 2015 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi. Both Dabangs and Waveriders will be looking for their first win of the tournament, as so far none of them have registered a win to their name.

Sitting at the foot of the points table with 5 points apiece, both Dabang Mumbai and Delhi Waveriders have played three games each, drawing two and losing one, in the League as of yet. With the next game scheduled between the two, the teams will step out on the turf with their best line-up and strategies to take on each other and gain a winning momentum.
