Even though after being held by Wizards, Waveriders went to the top of the points table at the end of their game against them. Waveriders team management will be worried about the failure to convert chances into goals which would have fetched them better results, though the Delhi outfit have been good outings on the turf and are unbeaten in their first three outings including a draw. In this evening game, Magicians would play for the first time at home this season. Warriors have had a horrendous start to their campaign, losing three games on the trot. Magicians’ start to the event hasn’t been any better, losing both their games so far, including the loss to Ranchi Rhinos on Friday evening.
For both the teams, Sunday’s game is as much a challenge mentally, as it is physically. Keeping their morale high despite having suffered a poor start is something that both the team managements would be trying to do. Mumbai Magicians were outplayed by a spirited Ranchi Rhinos team on Friday evening, and Magicians would need to recover quickly from that loss. They opted to sit back and weather the storm on Friday, and paid a heavy price for it, as Rhinos had already scored three goals by the end of the second quarter. Continue reading →

Ranchi, 17 January 2013: Two teams with different starts will go head to head in the Hero Hockey India League, when Ranchi Rhinos take on Mumbai Magicians at home on Friday.
Ranchi Rhinos got off to a good start on Wednesday, when they handed Jaypee Punjab Warriors their second successive defeat in an away game. Rhinos, who have invested a lot in local talent, defended extremely well towards the end stages of the game on Wednesday, and the team management would love to see a similar performance from the backline against Magicians.
Mumbai Magicians suffered a 1-2 loss at the hands of Delhi Waveriders on Wednesday, and would be keen to score a win against Rhinos to get their campaign back on track. New Delhi, 16 January, 2013: Delhi Waveriders survived an anxious last few minutes to defeat Mumbai Magicians 2-1 and consolidate their lead at the top of the inaugural Hero Hockey India League with 10 points from two encounters.
Lloyd Norris-Jones of Delhi Waveriders scored the winner goal for his team against Mumbai Magicians
The hosts, who had beaten Jaypee Punjab Warriors in their tournament opener, dominated the game against the Magicians for the first three quarters at the Major DhyanChand National Stadium but their profligacy in front of the opposition goal almost came back to haunt them in the dying minutes.
Despite a penalty corner conversion by Rupinder Pal Singh (27) and a fine goal by South African Lloyd Norris-Jones (48), the Delhi Waveriders could have ended up dropping three points had the upright not come to their rescue in the last minute.
New Delhi, 15 January 2013: Having got off to a good start in the Hero Hockey India League, Delhi Waveriders would try to maintain their position at the top of the points table as they take on Mumbai Magicians at home in Wednesday’s second game on Wednesday.
Rupinder Pal Singh and Simon Child of Delhi Waveriders (HIL) will need to be in their elements against Mumbai Magicians
Waveriders began the game against Jaypee Punjab Warriors with a very high tempo, and could have gone ahead in the first minute of the game. Waveriders would be hoping to get another equally good or even better start against the Mumbai Magicians, who have got some very dangerous players in their side.
Germany’s Oskar Deecke and Gurwinder Singh Chandi scored a goal each in the space of eight minutes that gave Waveriders a 2-1 win on Monday. And the Waveriders’ think tank would expect a similar performance from Deecke and Chandi. Continue reading →
