Australia to face New Zealand in all trans-Tasman final at Hawke’s Bay Cup

The Hockeyroos have booked their place in Sunday afternoons gold medal match at the 2015 Hawke’s Bay Cup in New Zealand against Trans-Tasman rivals, the Black Sticks, after defeating China 3-2 in the semi-final Saturday evening. New Zealand defeated Korea by 4-0 in the other semi final. Earlier in the day, USA beat India 3-0 with two goals from Katie O’Donnell and one from Kathleen Sharkey. The Americans will now face Argentina in the 5th/6th play-off tomorrow after narrowly winning 3-2 against Japan. India will play Japan tomorrow to decide the 7th/8th position. The Black Sticks (New Zealand) Women have secured their spot in the Hawke’s Bay Cup semi finals after an emphatic 4-1 result over India in this evening’s quarter final. China overcame Japan in shoot-out by 3-1 after scoreless draw in regulation time to set-up semi finals against Australia who defeated Argentina by 1-0, thanks to 4th minute goal by Kathryn Slattery. Australia and India had plenty to play for in the final pool match of the Hawke’s Bay Cup Women’s Hockey tournament in Hastings, but after 60 minutes of intense action it was Australia that came away the more disappointed team after the match ended in a scoreless draw.
