Champions Trophy 2011 (3-11 Dec) and 2012 Olympic Qualifiers (15-26 Feb) in Delhi

The FIH (International Hockey Federation) has announced the official dates for major competition for the year ahead, the six Olympic Qualification tournaments. The Olympic Qualifiers (Qualification Tournaments) for London 2012 Olympics will be hosted by three nations (India, Belgium and Japan) with a men’s and women’s tournament running in parallel.

The FIH Champions Challenge 1 from November 26 – December 4  in Johannesburg, South Africa and overlapping the FIH Champions Trophy in New Delhi, India from December 3 to December 11, 2011 will complete the calendar of 2011.

The FIH Women’s Champions Trophy in Argentina from January 28 to February 5, 2012 will mark the starting one of the busiest year in recent times, which has Olympics, Qualifiers in addition to regular annual tournaments of FIH. Continue reading →

India’s chances in Asian Games Hockey: Points table till now

Indian men’s team has won their both the matches against lowly Hong Kong China (7-0) and Bangladesh (9-0) while their female counter parts won their first game against Malaysia (4-0) and lost next two against Japan (0-3) and Korea (0-1). Indian women’s team is virtually out of the contest of Gold medal, but still are in race for Bronze. India need to win two games to be in top four in the league round and they can easily come over Thailand (19th Nov) and Kazakhstan (20th Nov), before facing to hosts and favorites China on 22nd Nov. While men’s team need to win their two matches against Pakistan (20th Nov) and Japan (21st Nov) to top the pool and have easy semi finals, as Korea (defending champions) are expected to top other pool which only strong team in Pool A.

India Vs Pakistan on Nov 20 in 2010 Asian Games, Guangzhou, China

Commonwealth Games silver medalists India have been grouped with arch-rivals Pakistan, Japan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong in the men’s hockey competition for November 12-27 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. Defending champions South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Oman and hosts China are in pool A.

Indian Women will play Malaysia in their first fixture on 13 November. The women competition will be played on a round robin format between China, Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and Thailand. Continue reading →
