The visitors India men and Argentina women edged past the Black Sticks teams by just one goal respectively, at Marist Park at St Bede’s College in Christchurch (New Zealand) tonight. The winning goals came in the last few minutes of the matches.

With this win, India are leading in the series by 2-1, as India lost the 1st match of the series by 2-0 and won second match by 3-1 at Nelson. In the last match of the series, the Black Sticks Men face India in the South Island Tour at 13:00 local time i.e. 05:30 IST this Sunday in Christchurch. After defeat in the opening match of the test series, India came back strongly to beat New Zealand 3-1 to level the series in 2nd match at Nelson in the 4-match test series against the Black Sticks National Men team.

After defeating New Zealand A in practice matches, India lost 0-2 to hosts in the first test of the 4-match test series in New Zealand. But, India lifted their tempo throughout the second match and displayed attacking hockey which helped them score three goals over the hosts, while the Black Sticks could find target only once. Defending champions the Indian Men Junior Team departed yesterday night, 6th October, to participate in the 5th Sultan of Johor Cup, which is scheduled from 11th October to 18th October in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

After a month long preparation camp, the young colts are upbeat to face challenges in the tournament and will play hard to win the title for the third consecutive time. The Junior Team will be facing the challenge from Australia, Great Britain, Pakistan, Argentina and hosts Malaysia. New Zealand defeated India by 2-0 in their first test match in the ongoing New Zealand Tour. New Zealand‘s Nick Haig and Jared Panchia scored the goals while India failed to find target in four quarters of 15 minutes each. In the women’s match, Black Sticks women defeated Argentina by 4-1 to make it double victory for the hosts at Nelson.

Riding on double strike by SK Uthappa, the India Men Hockey team managed to win against New Zealand A in the second game of the New Zealand Tour. In the 2nd practice match against New Zealand A, India won by 2-1, while in the 1st match scoreline was 3-1, with goals coming from three different players (Akashdeep Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Nikkin Thimmaiah).

The first quarter saw both the teams going on the attack on each other’s defending zones. But in the 5th minute, Indian forwards from Karnataka SV Sunil, Nikkin Thimmaiah and SK Uthappa combined well to score. Sunil entered the D and passed the ball to Nikkin and he sent the ball to SK Uthappa, who brilliantly sent the ball in the nets giving no chance to the opponent’s goalkeeper to react. India continued its pressure and maintained good ball possession, keeping the opponents defence busy all through. But with no further goals added, the quarter ended 1-0 in India’s favour.
