Kookaburras defended their World Cup Title Successfully

Australia powered to a sensational 6-1 victory over host nation the Netherlands in the men’s final of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 in The Hague, Netherlands. Drag-flicking defender Chris Ciriello scored a hat-trick to help the Kookaburras retain the title that they won four years ago in New Delhi, India.

While 11th ranked Argentina continued to impress as they defeated England by 2-0 to win the Bronze Medal, which is 2nd for the coach Carlos Retegui, who is the head of both Los Leones and Las Leonas, Men’s and Women’s Hockey team of Argentina.

The Netherlands have been crowned as winners of the Women’s Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014.

  • IOC President Thomas Bach joins FIH President Leandro Negre on stage for prize-giving ceremony
  • Eight-time World Player of the Year Luciana Aymar scores two in Argentina bronze-medal win
  • A capacity 15,000-member crowd cheered the Netherlands on to gold

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach joined International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) President Leandro Negre on stage for the prize-giving ceremony in The Hague. President Bach travelled to the Netherlands along with many IOC members to witness FIH’s hugely successful showpiece.
