Former chief coach of Indian Men’s Hockey team Michael Nobbs thinks India should try home-grown coach till Rio 2016 Olympics. This website, www.thefansofhockey.com, had a chat with Nobbs, when he was in Bangalore on a business trip.

While talking about the current scenario of Indian Hockey, he said, “India has already qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympics by winning Asian Games 2014. So they are not under pressure of playing for Olympic berth in Hockey World League. Indian team is young but experienced.“

New Delhi, 17 December 2014: Hockey India today launched “Hockey India On-line Academy Platform” (www.hioap.org). The platform is a step towards to produce and nurture young talent in hockey by supporting the coaches who are responsible towards the development of young talent from the grass-roots level.

Hockey India announced induction of Major Ports Sports Control Board as its 23rd Associate Member, Mumbai Schools Sports Association as its 2nd Hoc-Key Member and three new academy members in the form of Hockey Village India, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Hockey Academy, Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab) and Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy Jarkhar, Ludhiana.

Hockey India currently has 26 Permanent Members, 23 Associate Members, 1 Member through State Olympic Associations, 9 Academy Members and 2 Hoc-Key Members.
Since its inception in 1976, Major Ports Sports Control Board has successfully participated in the zonal as well as national level championships around the year and which has helped identify players at a very young age. They even have to their credit of organising the ‘All India Major Ports Hockey Championship’ from over 30 years. 29 March 2014: Hockey India today held its 22nd Executive Board meeting at Holiday Inn Hotel in New Delhi. Some major decisions were taken in the meeting along with routine matters of the Federation.
With the aim of promoting hockey as a sport across the world, Hockey India took a strategic decision to provide aid to Afghanistan Hockey Federation, as Afghanistan Hockey Federation had requested for aid in a communiqué received early this month. Finally, the decision has been taken and Hockey India has been recognised by Govt of India as National Sports Federation (NSF) for the sport of Hockey (Men’s and Women’s).
The long pending issue of governing body of Hockey in India, which was affecting the sport in the country, is now settled. This decision of government is expected to have a positive impact on the promotion and development of National Sport of India i.e. Hockey.
According to a press release by Hockey India, it’s a moment of ecstasy for them today as they have finally been assigned the responsibility of promoting Hockey in India. Government of India through Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports recognized Hockey India as the sole body responsible towards promotion of sport in national and international arena. Continue reading →
