With the Gold medal on the line, the Indian Men Hockey Team lived its dream of bringing home the Gold today at the 17th Asian Games 2014. With this win, India seals a berth in the Rio 2016 Olympics. The hosts Korea defeated Malaysia 3-2 to take Bronze.

Korea defeated defending China by 1-0 to win Gold and the India showed a spectacular performance to defeat Japan 2-1 for the bronze medal in the 17th Asian Games 2014 at the Soenhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon.

In the finals, the hosts Korea edged past the defending champions China by a single goal that came in 3rd quarter. A field goal by Kim Darae in 41st minute was enough to stop last 3 editions’ champions China from 4th consecutive title.
In the hard-fought battle between the two teams for Bronze Medal, the India took an early lead through a successful conversion of a penalty corner by Jaspreet Kaur in the 23rd minute of the games, following a dry first quarter of the game for both the teams. Continue reading →
Nail-biting semi-finals at the Incheon to set dream final between the neighbouring arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the 17th Asian Games 2014.
Indian men’s Hockey team edged past Korea 1-0, while Pakistan could managed to win against Malaysia in penalty shoot-out by 6-5 on sudden death at the Soenhak Hockey Stadium to reach a win away from Gold medal at Asian Games and a shot at qualification for Rio 2016 Olympics. In the match between Malaysia and Pakistan, nothing could separate two teams in regulation time as it finished without a goal from anyside. The hosts Korea have set-up the summit clash against defending champions China at the 17th Asian Games 2014. Korea defeated India by 3-1, while China overcame Japan’s stiff defence as they converted only shot on the goal Seonhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon today.

In a match which saw only shot a goal on the goal, China edged past Japan with just three minutes to final hooter. Both the teams attacked relentlessly but failed to pull the trigger. In the dying minutes of match, China earned a penalty corner and WANG Mengyu made full use of it to take her team to final.
In the first quarter, Korea scored the opener within three minutes of the match when Kim Darae hit-out a strong reverse beating Indian goal-keeper Savita and sent the ball into the net. In the last league match of Pool B played today at Seonhak Hockey Stadium in Incheon, South Korea, the Indian Men Hockey team defeated China 2-0 to set up semi final match against the hosts. In the other semi-final of 17th Asian Games 2014 Malaysia will face the defending champions Pakistan.

The Indian team displayed an exceptional level of game and edged out China, storming into the semi-finals thus keeping the hopes of a Gold medal for India alive, while Malaysia defeated Japan 4-1 to ensure their place in medal round.
Pakistan and Korea continued their winning streak with 8-0 and 7-0 wins against lowly Oman and Bangladesh to finish at the top of points table in their respective pools.
