This weekend, Unibet EuroHockey Championships concluded at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. Hosts England won the title in women’s category, and the Netherlands outclassed Germany to win men’s competition.

The Indian Women hockey team post getting a confirmation from FIH on their qualification to RIO Olympics 2016 are ecstatic on their historic achievement.
The women team will be featuring in the all important tournament after a gap of 36 years post earning the place through a rigorous qualification process. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has confirmed today that India women and Spain have qualified for the hockey event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
India qualified after England defeated Spain in the semi-finals of the Unibet EuroHockey Championships in London, which ensured that the only teams who can now win the event have already qualified for Rio through the Hockey World League Semi-Finals – Netherlands and England (as Great Britain). India Junior Women Hockey team for the upcoming 7th Women’s Junior Asia Cup was announced today. Experienced forward Rani Rampal will lead the India team in Changzhou, China from 05 September to 13 September 2015.
India is placed in Pool A along with China, Malaysia, Singapore, DPR Korea. In Pool B, Korea Rep, Japan, Thailand and Chinese-Taipei will contest against each other. This tournament will be a qualification event for the Junior Women World Cup 2016.

Hockey India League (HIL) is conducting a fresh auction of players for the upcoming season of the League on September 17 at New Delhi. The six franchisee will bid for players from India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, England, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, Malaysia, Japan and Korea to complete their teams.
This is going to be 4th season of HIL, but still there are no teams from South India, either of Chennai or Bangalore should have had a franchise in the league by now. In the interest of the game and for increasing its reach, hockey hotbeds like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu can not be ignored in important league like HIL, which has become one of the best league in world, however it is yet to spread its arms pan-India.
