The India Junior Men Hockey Team is all geared up to start the Volvo Invitational U-21 Tournament 2015 on a positive note against Germany in Breda (Netherlands) tomorrow (18th July at 18:30 IST). The Junior Women hockey team of India will their first match against the Netherlands on 19th July.
The India Junior Men team looks forward to enjoying yet another winning campaign in the Volvo Invitational Tournament U-21 2015 after claiming the Sultan of Johor Cup title second time in a row by defeating teams such as Australia, Great Britain and Pakistan in 2014. After their winning campaign, they beat Australia and New Zealand again in the Test Series in Brisbane Australia in December 2014. Looking forward to giving an optimum performance in the league ahead, the teams are ready for a tough fight to outwit each other and ending the game pocketing their first win in the tournament.
After facing Germany in the first match, the Harjeet Singh-led U-21 team will clash against Belgium, England, New Zealand and hosts The Netherlands and aims to earn maximum points in the league matches. (Full Schedule here)
The Rani Rampal – led Junior Women team will face the challenge of Germany, England, New Zealand, China and host The Netherlands in the tournament aiming for a positive result from the tournament. The Junior Team gained reasonable experience during their New Zealand Tour in 2014 where the team drew three matches, lost two and won one against the host team.
Speaking ahead of their first clash against Germany, India Captain Harjeet Singh said, “Our team is looking forward to the first clash of the tournament and we will bring into play our strengths. We have undergone rigorous training sessions, which have improved our game and helped us to perform as a unit against top teams. The team is very excited and confident to face Germany and we hope to start off on a good note with a victory.”
Anticipating a good performance against Germany, Coach Harendra Singh said, “I am confident of a positive result and the team will put up a tough fight against Germany tomorrow. The boys will have to ensure that they attack and do not allow opponents to put pressure on us. We have worked hard on rectifying the mistakes and focussing more on strategies.”
Speaking post a practice session, defender Harmanpreet Singh said “It’s a very important tournament for us as post this we will be playing the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2015 in November this year and hence we have to be sure that we are in line with our strategies by that time. The team is very confident of a winning start and it will be about getting the penalty corners and convert them. He is a huge morale boost in the defence chain and I look at him to be the key member here for the tournament. The way he tackles the opponents is amazing and I’m trying to learn these tricks from him”.
Speaking on the Volvo International U-21 Tournament 2015, Junior Women Team skipper Rani Rampal said, “The tournament is an important platform for us as we will face the World’s best hockey teams and the experience earned here will help us in the upcoming tournaments slated during the year. We understand that the competition is tough but we are well-prepared to give a strong challenge. Our only aim is to implement our strategies on the turf and earn maximum points from the match. The month-long preparation camp has boosted our morale and we are confident to take-on any team in the tournament. We are expecting a good outcome from the tournament.”
The Volvo Invitational U-21 Tournament 2015 will be held at Breda, The Netherlands from 18-26 July 2015. The Junior Men team will play their first match against Germany on 18th July 2015 at 18:30 IST.
