Valencia (Spain), 23 February 2015: Indian eves completed their Spain tour with a 2-1 victory over Germany played in Valencia on February 22. The tour was in preparation for the FIH World League Round 2, to be held in New Delhi from 07 – 15 March, 2015.

The Indian women hockey team started the tour with a goalless draw and 1-0 win over the hosts Spain. Vandana Katariya scored lone Indian goal in 2 matches against Spain, which were litmus tests of Indian forward line against well organized Spanish defence. In following matches of the tour, Indian team went down to Men’s teams Dutch clubs Haagsche Delftsche Mixed Hockey Club (HDM) JA 1 and Groningsche Cricket en Hockey Club (GCHC) by 10-2 and 4-1 respectively.

Ambassador of India to Spain, Vikram Misri and the Secretary Chander Parkash Gandhi were seen enjoying the match against Germany and supporting the Indian eves to go for the win.

Both the teams started cautiously as neither team wanted to give the initial edge to the other. The teams made desperate attempts to strike the goal post but all went in vain and the entire first half of the game proved to be a dry run for both the teams.

It was Deepika who opened the score card for Indian eves and surged ahead in the 40th minute by scoring a field goal taking the score to 1-0. Germany did not sit back, and pressed hard in search of an equaliser but the Indian eves displaying some spectacular stick work as they dominated the game and kept the ball in their possession for long. It was through the stick of Amandeep Singh who successfully converted the penalty corner in the 55th minute to double the lead for India.

Germany did not disappoint themselves and played with a single intention to score and open their score card. Germany’s Marie Mavers finally broke the shackles and slapped the ball towards the nets and pumped in a lone goal through a field effort in the 59th minute taking the score to 2-1. Unable to add any further goals the game ended with India taking the win 2-1 against Germany.
