Perth (Australia), 05 November 2014: After 4-0 defeat at the hands of World Champions Australia in first match, India came back from 0-1 down to win 2-1 in 2nd mach against Kookaburras the second match of the India-Australia four-match test series, being played at Perth Hockey Stadium.

India started with aggressively and kept the opponents busy in the first two quarters of the match. In few occasions, they managed to sneak into Australian defence-line and created good opportunities to take initial lead. However, Australia drew the first blood in the 30thminute when forward player Matt Gohdes deflected a shot and sent the ball into the box, taking the lead 1-0 just before the end of 2nd quarter. The game saw both the teams giving a hard time to each other every time one of the teams tried penetrating the opponent’s D, as the game witnessed the defence of both the teams at an all time high. Kookaburras Glenn Simpson marked his comeback from injury with a goal and Tasmanian Jeremy Edwards netted the first strike of his young international career as the Australia men’s hockey team scored 4-0 over fellow Commonwealth Games finalists India in Perth.

Playing the new four-quarter format, Jeremy Hayward’s powerful penalty corner on the stroke of quarter time gave the Australian men a deserved early lead, doubled 15 minutes later by Jake Whetton. Edwards’ diving goal four minutes into the second half put the match beyond the visitors at 3-0 before Glenn Simpson announced his comeback with a fourth and final goal.
In his first match in charge since succeeding Ric Charlesworth in September, Kookaburras coach Graham Reid called it “a reasonable start”, adding, “We don’t care about the score, it’s about how we’re playing and tonight we were reasonably happy with how we played. There are lots of things we’ve got to work on; our circle efficiency is one of the major things we’re trying to work on and there’s a lot of work there still to do. We still made a lot of opportunities and didn’t finish off so that was a little disappointing but some good efforts.”

In men section league match in Pool C Star studded Punjab Xi (Pakistan) displayed controlled and fast hockey in their first encounter against Punjab National Bank. In the very first minute of the play Punjab XI (Pakistan) took lead with the field goal scored by Moh. Afzal (1-0). In the tour for preparation of the upcoming FIH Champions Trophy 2014, scheduled to take place from 6th December – 14th December 2014, at Bhubaneswar, India, visitors has fielded youngsters like Lalit Upadhyay, Gurjinder Singh to give them exposure.
