New Zealand, 08 November 2014: The Future Black Sticks Women have won 5-0 against the India Juniors today, backing up an earlier win and a draw in the series being held at the TET Multisports Centre in Stratford.

The first half of the match saw a defensive game from the Indian division, but slipped away two penalty corners in New Zealand‘s favor which were successfully converted by Siobhan Nuzum and Su Arn Kwek, giving them a 2-0 lead by the end of the first half. The Junior Black Sticks Women were seen to on an attacking spree from the very beginning of the game and held the Indian Junior Women Hockey team back from opening their goal account in the match.

Repeated efforts from the Indian Junior Women Hockey team to open the goal account in the match and restricting the opponents from striking further goals went in vain, as the Junior Black Sticks Women went on to penetrate the Indian D and sliced in three more goals in the second half and take the goal tally 5-0. In the second half, the Future Black Sticks put the foot down with Kelsey Smith, Su Arn Kwek scoring again and Erin Goad all adding to the tally.

With the first three matches of the series being played with two halves of 35 minute each, the teams will be playing with 15 minute quarters format in the remaining three matches of the series.

Future Black Sticks Head coach Jude Menezes said the work rate was extremely high today and it was encouraging to see a big step up from their drawn game on Thursday.

It was so pleasing to see us execute the things we spoke about yesterday at training. We held our structure a lot better, we converted two out of five penalty corners and scored some great field goals,”said Menezes.

Sarah Matthews was great in goal and helped keep us in the game, but overall it was a really strong team performance – we wanted to come out and make a real statement today, and we did. Our style of play will change tomorrow, our game plan will need to change to suit – so we will see how we go,” said Menezes.

India will be taking on New Zealand again on 09 November 2014 (tomorrow) at 0730 HRS (IST) for their fourth match of the ongoing six-match test series in New Zealand at TET Multisports Centre, Stratford.
